Trip To Vegas?

So since I kind of didn't feel like we got much of a honeymoon, we are planning to do maybe a honeymoon/babymoon in April to Vegas.  Both of us have always wanted to go, and figured that we would like to go before our family increases.

I was wondering if any of you ladies have any tips on where to stay, places to eat, things we might want to see?  I think we are going to do a Mon-Fri trip, provided DH can get the time off work.

TIA!

Re: Trip To Vegas?

  • I can say NOT to stay at Luxor. We stayed there about 9 years ago and really liked, but then we went back 2 years ago and it has really gotten run down. They have some good deals, but I felt like our room was super scuzzy. I think DH stayed at Mandalay bay for a guys trip and liked it.

If you have the extra $$, try to see a cirque show. We saw the water one last time and really liked it.

  • New York, New York is pretty fun because there is a lot to do in the hotel itself, and I felt the rooms were reasonably priced for what you get.

Caesar's Palace is really big with tons to do, but I felt like the standard rooms are TINY for how much they cost. CP is not cheap, but you can almost never leave because there's so much to do there.

MGM Grand is HUGE, fun, and the rooms and really big! They are a little pricey, but the rooms are so big. MGM is my favorite hotel in Vegas.

I stayed at the Palms and thought it was over hyped and over priced.

I've also stayed at the Flamingo. Their rooms are really cheap but they seemed really clean, and the Flamingo is so close to everything it doesn't really matter that the hotel/casino doesn't offer as much as the other ones.

I've stayed at Luxor and I would have to agree with pp. We mainly just stayed there because it was cheap.

My top pick is NY NY because it's not sooo expensive & it's smack in the middle of everything!

  • I haven't been there recently, but I lived there briefly 10 years ago and have been on many trips there.  Things change so frequently there, so I would get advice from someone who has been there more recently as to things to do such as what the more current best restaurants are, but I'll tell you about a few of the hotels that I have stayed at.  I agree with pp that a Cirque show is a must if you've never seen one.  I've seen O and Mystere.  I love the Bellagio, but it is pricey (at least it was back when I was there.)  One of my favorite things in the world is just to stand outside the Bellegio and watch the water show.  That's a definite must see in my book!  I liked staying at the Venetian and it's all suites (I think.)  I hated staying at the MGM.  It's way too big IMO.  I felt like in I was in the movie Vegas Vacation ("go down past this bank of elevators, not the gold ones, etc." or whatever the line is.)  It seriously took 20 minutes to get from our room out to do whatever we were going to do.  I wouldn't suggest staying there, but there is a restaurant called Top of the World (I think) that is at the top of the Stratosphere and you get an amazing view of the city.  HTH!
  • when will you be there?  i'll be in vegas in april!

i was just at TI a couple of months ago and loved it!  if you stay for at least 3 nights you get 2 free tickets to mystre.  they where great sets and the show was amazing!

i puffy heart MGM and NYNY!

  • DEFINITELY see a Cirque show if you can. Mystere is FANTASTIC! We saw KA on our honeymoon...it was great, but I like Mystere so much more.  We stayed at the MGM Grand on the HM, and I agree with PP that it's just too huge.  We had to take two different sets of elevators to get to our room - which was an AMAZING room - but I felt like we missed out on a lot of "fun time" because it took for.e.ver. to get anywhere, plus it's kind of at the end of the strip.

The only other place I've stayed is The Aladdin, which is now Planet Hollywood. The location is perfect, right across from The Bellagio fountains. I'm not sure what the mall is there, but I would DEFINITELY suggest the restaurants in PH. We ate at many of them, and never had a bad meal.

If you're up for it, the "adult" shows are actually a lot of fun too. I went to the one that had been at the Aladdin with my mom (SERIOUSLY!) when I was 20, and we both thought it was a riot. I can't tell a lot of people that I saw that with my MOM, but we seriously enjoyed it!

  • Definitely go to the Peppermill Restaurant.  It's like a step back in time.  While you're there, make sure you go in the Fireside Lounge.  I've only eaten brunch at the restaurant but I hear it's where the locals go when they get off work in the odd hours of the night/morning.  One of these days I will check it out then.  The food is decent - your typical diner fare but super large portions.  I know you can't have this, but they make a mean bloody mary.

The Fireside Lounge...well words can't describe it.  I can totally picture the Brat Pack hanging out there.  There's a sunken area with a little pool that hae a fise in it.  So cool!

It's across from Slots of Fun and Circus Circus.

My other favorite place is the Voodoo Lounge at the top of Rio. It has a great view of the strip, although with the new City Place construction I don't know if that is now obstructed.  Another great view of the strip is from the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay.  You can see all the way up the strip.  I think the Foundation Room now has times when the general public can go in there, otherwise it's a private club.

ETA:  Brat Pack should have been RAT Pack.  lol  Totally different era.

  • As you probably know, we are out there every year.  I have mass amount of info to give you that I'll spare on here.  Remind me of your email or just email me at tamlynn at morfius dot com and I can give you info on pretty much everything.
  • I have a cousin who works at the MGM so we always stay there.  I think their rooms are beautiful and huge.  The only problem is, I can never find my GD room since the place is sooo big.  Seriously, I get lost in Casino, give up and play black jack for a few more hours.  Well, I guess that's no accident!  GL and have a great time!  I <3 Vegas.
  • My suggestion is to stay somewhere mid strip so it doesn't take you forever to get anywhere.  We've stayed all over the place from the Bellagio, Luxor, Mirage, Monte Carlo, etc.  My favorite so far has been Harrah's.  It's not as fancy as the rest but the rooms are inexpensive and very clean (newly remodeled).  There's also a tram that goes up and down the strip and stops off right behind the Harrah's.  So transportation is made easy if you don't feel like walking.

I agree with pp that Luxor has really gone down hill and isn't very nice to stay at.  Plus you're too far from everything.

For food, my favorite buffet was the Rio's.  There's a free shuttle from Harrah's and two other hotels that take you there and back.

  • Just a FYI for all of you Luxor haters...it's been going under a huge over haul the past year and it's still going on.  You might want to give it another try when it is done.  You wouldn't recognize a lot of it anymore.
  •

My #1 hands down favorite place to stay is the Signature Towers at the MGM.  I also really like the Trump. I agree w/ Sarah, the Palms is overpriced, unless you are staying in a suite, which is awesome.  Off the strip  I heart the Hardrock

I agree w/ Shannon, the foundation room is AWESOME. Its kinda touristy now, but I think everyone should go to the ghostbar at least once, and Moon is cool. I like rehab at The Hardrock on the weekends.

I love Hugo's cellar in the Queens, downtown. It's one of the best resturants I have been to in the world.

That's true! When I was there last year it did look under construction.

  • Take a trip to Downtown/Old Town Vegas, they have a awesome light show that happens at night, cheap drinks, and high payouts on slots. Its a super fun place to just walk around.

Funny...this is the first restaurant I suggested in the uber long email I sent her.  DH and I love it there.
