Life Insurance is such a PITA - Vent!

I don't know if it's the agent we're going through or what, but the process has just been dragging on forever. We started at the beginning of November (got bloodwork done then) and it still isn't active. They didn't get us the forms to put it active until the middle of Jan and we found out that DH's premium is higher than they initially quoted. We weren't surprised that it was higher since he has IBS and his dad got cancer before 60. But the reason they sited for his high rate was depression. Except DH doesn't have depression!!! The problem is that the medication he takes for IBS is also a depression medication, but it's dosed at a different rate to treat his IBS. He clarified that during the interviews and every person from the insurance company said "oh, it shouldn't matter that the medication is in the class of depression medications as long as you don't write that you have depression". So it turns out that somewhere on his entry document for his current doctor (you know, those checklists that you fill out before you see them to tell your history) he checked depression. Probably for the same reason that he told the insurance company about the depression medication.  Now the insurance company won't take depression off the record unless the dr writes a note. Except the dr. won't write a note b/c it was DH that checked it on a form. And nowhere on any of his medical records does it say anything about treatment of depression aside from this stupid check box. Soooo ridiculous!!!! DH is going to try and talk to a few more people at the company, but I don't know what we're going to do, just accept the policy as is or try or start the process over somewhere else (except they always ask if you've applied elsewhere and I don't know if this would hurt us).

  • Oh my goodness!  Terp I am sorry you are having such a difficult time with Life Insurance!  Why wont your DH's doctor just write a note?!  I mean if he marked it by mistake just write a freaking letter!

Hope it all works out for you soon!!!

  • I don't know! The life insurance people are also really hard to get ahold of, too, they never answer their phone and DH can't always take their calls while he's at work b/c he lacks privacy. So he hasn't been sucessful at finding out what else he can do. It's not the end of the world, I just didn't figure it would be such a pain!
