I'm cautiously thinking about having it. Haven't even gone in for a consult yet. I just wanted to hear some real life experiences. Thanks!
Re: Lasik- anyone had it
If my vision would stop changing, I would totally be all about it.
Those that I know who have gotten it have loved it. I have heard that some experience dry eyes, but no one I know had that experience.
I had it done last June. Same comment as everyone else - worth every penny. I was jogging the next morning.
I'm afraid of the eye doctor the way some people fear the dentist. True story. I need sedation optometry.
No way in HELL will I do Lasik, even if it means being legally blind without my vision correction for the rest of my life.

I'd really like to have it, but my eye doctor recommended that I wait a few more years to see if my eyes stop changing. (It seems like whenever I go for my yearly visit my eyes have gotten slightly worse.) I'm in grad school now and he said I should wait to finish, since doing a lot of reading can strain your eyes and cause your vision to change...
My FIL had Lasik a few years ago and I think has had the dry eyes problem, but overall seems happy with it.
I had it about 10 years ago and I love it. My vision was 20/15 right afterward the procedure and has settled into 20/20. My vision was horrible before, I could only make out the big E on the eye chart and even that was fuzzy.
You do have to use eye drops/tears right after while your eyes adjust to the new shape. Have I stop using them years ago. I also bought polarized sunglasses on the advice of my doctor.
Thanks for all the info. I want it desparately but the whole slicing/lasering the eyeball thing freaks me out a little. With few good drugs though I think I could handle it. I'm going to at least do the follow through and make an appt. for a consult to see if I'm a good canidate.
Triangle ladies who've had it, who did you go with and would you recommend them?
LLG- I'd love some more info on Duke.
I had lasik about five years ago and ditto all who are advocates. It really changed my life. In my life, I had never been able to see the time on the alarm clock while in bed without putting on my glasses. Pretty much immediately following the procedure, I could see a clock from across a room...felt pretty miraculous! One issue I had was some temporary dry eye (6 weeks only which is pretty normal). I followed doctor's orders and use my eye drops and on the first day of the 7th week, no more dry eyes.
I too had some crazy awesome vision at first (much better than 2020) but over the years, it has dropped off some. Last year, my Dr. told me I was hovering around 2020....eyes change as you age no matter what so I expect in about 4-6 years, I might need a touch up but not in the near future.
I would definitely recommend researching the doctor and try and find one that does both lasik and cares for other laser forms of eye treatment (like catarax (sp?)). I liked that my doctor treated "real" patients as well as lasik so that I felt comfortable that they could handle issues with me if they came up.
I don't have a Dr. recommendation here because I was in Ohio at the time.
Good luck!
