I always thought favors weren't necessary, but about a week and a half before my wedding the fiance of one of DH's best friends (who wasn't going to be able to make it because he was starting a new job in Miami) asked him what our favors were going to be. Granted, I wasn't part of the conversation so I don't know how it came up, but it seemed a little strange/rude to me.

Eh, that doesn't seem to rude to me, especially coming from a guy. It's like "Oh hey, what are your colors? What's for dinner? What are the favors?" People asked me what our favors were, it didn't bother me.

I guess that makes sense. And now that I think about it, he's probably starting to plan his own wedding and may have asked to get ideas. I think I was just sensitive to it because at the time I wasn't going to have favors at all and I was worried some people might expect them.
