Can you help a Houston nestie?

I would like to go to a PhD program at UT. But, in order to make this dream a reality my DH has to get a job in Austin. Can you tell me the name of some of the home builders in the area for me to check out. I know most the national ones, but a lot of times there are smaller local ones I would miss. If you know someone hiring that would be even better! TIA!

Re: Can you help a Houston nestie?

  • I don't have any but wanted to wish you lots of luck!!
  • Which ones do you have on your list already? That might help us think of some.

  • There are no jobs in Austin for that field. There are about a dozen people I know looking for jobs in home building and they just are not there.

  • Look into the Home Builder's Association but like pp has already pointed out, the construction industry out here sucks. If anything I'd suggest non-residential construction and look into multi-family like condos or commercial construction since the housing market stinks out here.
  • These are good resources:

Another route he could look into is becoming a rater or auditor, or 3rd party tester in the Austin area.

ETA: I hope everything works out for yall and you are able to get in to the program!

Unfortunately, I have to agree.  One of our best friends spent a year out of work in that field and he had awesome experience and spotless references.  :(  He did just find a job, but it was a very long process.

  • Thanks girls. I wouldn't be entering into the program for a while, so we are just doing preliminary research now. Hoping the market will pick up, its just as bad here too!
