So Gross (Last Night)

So I have to set the picture here.  This is our kitchen.

As you can see, we have a TON of cupboards, more than show in the picture, including some on the other side of the island facing the sink (which we don't even keep anything in).  Well, last night DH was doing something in there and opened one of those cupboards and discovered two 5 lb bags of potatoes that had been in there since THANKSGIVING.  I remember not being able to find them and assumed someone had taken them home.  Now it seems like someone "helping" me in the kitchen put them away (I am thinking MIL).  Do you have any idea how much 10 rotten lbs of potatoes smell?  I instantly started gagging and ran to the sink (from the living room) thinking I was going to throw up, which actually made it worse since they were right next to the sink.  DH threw them away, cleaned out the cupboard, left it and the sliding glass door open to air it out, but when I woke up this morning, you can still totally smell it.  SO GROSS!!!

Re: So Gross (Last Night)

  • Yummmmm Vodka.  Ick!

    I love your kitchen though....

  • Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

OMG! So Gross! I have had this happen to me, they didnt sit there that long...but yeah. Rotten potato smell is the WORST.

On the other hand you could have made some kick Ass moonshine with it! LOL

  • Thanks Karrey!  DH actually decorated it himself before I moved in.  Possibly part of the reason I thought he was gay the first day.
  • Thank you for making me want to toss my cookies!  I hope the smell leaves your house soon!

HA!!!!  Funny.  My ex-fiance's house was imaculate.  He was gay.  Glad you had a better turn out than me. =)
  • Ewwww Sorry about that smell.

    But I LOVE your kitchen!!!

  • I cant see the pic of your kitchen :( wah wah
  • I really like your kitchen!!

    But that's really gross-a-roo.

  • Ick! yuck! rotten anything is the worst smell to get rid of! DH & I did that once with the TURKEY! The roasting pan was sitting on the counter for like a week after we made it and each thought the other had cleaned it out, just not put away (cause it goes in that annoying cupboard above the fridge that nobody can reach). Yeah, I was unfortunate enough to be the one who lifted the lid. It's amazing how well pans/cupboards keep smells contained!

  • Yuucckk!  I'm so super squeamish about leftover food, especially anything that's been around for a long time (yours definitely surpasses that).  I can't even touch stuff that's been in the fridge a few weeks to toss and make DH do it.  I'd probably have thrown up if I came across those potatoes!  Gross!

  • Ugh, rotten potatoes are THE WORST.  Makes me think I should go through my cupboard / fridge to make sure we don't have any hiding anywhere...

  • Ick!

Rotten potatoes smell nasty, I know from experience. But 10 rotten potatoes? I'm surprised you didn't lose your cookies ...

  • Wow! You have a really nice kitchen! Love the counter space and how bright it is!  (as I try to figure out what's on the other side of the 'bumped out part...semi-island/peninsula...)

Hell-I'm off.  What am I thinking!?!

Thanks, the woman who lived here before us was a kitchen designer, or so she said.  She deff wasn't a cook though.  Against the wall (on the rt side of the pic) is basically a pantry and a wall of cupboards with an in wall oven and a stove top next to it.  I call the oven my "easy bake oven" since you can barely fit a roasting pan in it.  The opposite side of the island thing is more cupboards, then the fridge, also super tiny.  Like the size of an apt fridge (DH had a heck of a time finding a stainless steel fridge small enough).  The I guess fourth side is just a plain wall in the Arizona room that I have a china hutch against.  Also, the granite is granite tile not slab, so completely useless for baking.  I call it the "pretty useless" kitchen, since it looks good, but is totally non functional. Anyway, I included the pic so people could see how we could lose 10lbs of potatoes in our kitchen for four months!

  • After I read this post I went into the kitchen and discovered that we left the mayo out after supper last night.  It's in the trash now.
