Used Bookstores?

Any suggestions on really good used bookstores?  I live in the Rio Rancho area, but my work is in Albuquerque.  I'm looking for a place that does good trades.  TIA!

  • I'm interested in the answers to this too....

There is a Hastings by my house (Nob Hill) but I am not sure if they do trades? It's a cool store though!

  • Page One is where we usually go - they have the highest volume.  They don't do trades straight-out, but they give you a store credit.  The prices are fair. We find tehy usually give us teh best price, but we have hard backs and trade paperbacks.

You also have Title Wave (I forget where they moved), Bird Song (on Central near University), Bookcase (UNM area on Cornell) and the place Downtown (on 8th just south of Central).

DH does all our book trading, but I know he says they cater to different crowds/genres in each store.  A lot of times, you may need to try to get rid of a book a few times.  I know Page One takes certain titles based on demand.  Also, lots of folks have been trading in old books and movies and music lately for cash so there is a glut in the market and the prices are lower or the stores won't buy certain books.

For music, Charlies (up on Menaul) or Natural Sound do trades.

  • Hastings is not so awesome with the trades. I took in about 15 newer hardbacks a month ago. They rejected 12 of them and gave me a $3.50 credit for the other three.

There's a local shop on San Mateo, just north of Kathryn called Don's Paperback Books and they do trades. Title Wave has always been really good about trades and they're located on Eubank, a little north of the freeway.

  • Thanks everyone for the advice.  Definitely going to look in at those stores.  where is Page One?

  • Page One is up on Juan Tabo and Montgomery - southwest corner of the intersection.
