Invitation Etiquette Question

So... my graduation is this summer and we are having a party the night before instead of the day of because my graduation is on a Sunday.

In the last few months DH and I have mentioned the party to quite a few friends/family so we are guessing around 40 people are coming to the the party.  The problem is that I can't actually take that many people to the graduation ceremony the next day... I can only take about 15 to that.

And, I wasn't thinking when I made my save the dates for the party and they have both the party time and the graduation time on them.

So, do I just use whiteout and get rid of the line about the ceremony on the save the date?  Or, do I include a note explaining what's going on to the guests?  I don't really want to spend the money to re-order them especially when I still have to send the real invitation with RSVP cards an whatnot out in a few months..

Thoughts?  Would you be upset if you got invited to the party and told yo couldn't come to the ceremony?

Re: Invitation Etiquette Question

  • I would not be upset  I only got invited to the party and not the ceremony I would not have a problem with it at all.

Good Luck with the invitations I'm really bad at stuff like this too!

  • I wouldn't be upset just being invited to the party. But I would be kind of upset if I got an invite with details whited out. Unfortauntely I think a new invite is the only good way to go about it. If you send out party invites and ceremony invites there won't be any confusion. I doubt anyone would go by the STD. Good Luck and Congratulations!!!

  • I think you'd be ok whiting out the ceremony date/time on the invitations of those that won't be allowed to come due to space. I wouldn't be upset if I was told I couldn't come because of space, I could only invite 4 people to my ceremony so I would totally understand space limitations.

  • LOL I love you Bethie. :-)
  • Graduation ceremonies are boring. The party is fun. Don't worry about it.

This. I was bored at my graduation, and I'm sure my family I invited was too. The party is where it's at.
