Biden slams Obama for anti-McCain commercial
This is about the "mccain can't use a computer" commercial...?
http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0908/Biden_criticizes_Obama_ad_hitting_McCain_as_technologically_inept.html?showall
Joe Biden offered perhaps his most off-message statement yet since being tapped as Barack Obama's running mate, saying in an interview that he thought one of his campaign's own ads was "terrible" and hadn't know about it in advance.
Asked by CBS's Katie Couric about?an ad?Obama released earlier this month mocking John McCain for not being able to use a computer, Biden criticized the commercial and suggested it had been aired without his knowledge.
"I thought that was terrible by the way," Biden said of the computer ad in an interview broadcast tonight on the CBS Evening News??
Asked why it was aired, Biden said: "I?didn't know we did it and if I had anything to do with it, we would have never done it."?
Re: Biden slams Obama for anti-McCain commercial
Good for him. ?In whatever form it comes, I'm glad to see him attempt the distinction between himself and Obama, as if he's not the Yes Man so many candidates appear to desire on their ticket.
Could just be an attempt at that alone, might not be. ?Either way, I think it's smart.?
Oops. I wouldn't call that a "slam," but it is off message.
As for the ad, it's more truthful than most of the election ads out there, including McCain's latest batch of gems, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
I tend to agree.
ETA: I meant that about ESF & Dylanite. I think calling an ad "terrible" is a slam and the ad is worthy of ridicule since McCain doesn't email b/c he can't use a keyboard due to his war injuries. By all means, bring that up as much as possible so my side can respond with detailed descriptions of how he became disabled. ?
I think it's smart, too. Biden didn't like it (nor did many Dems for that matter) and he said so. That's what I like about him.
It also might be a way for the campaign to sort of apologize without having to apologize, kwim?
I can't fault Biden for that. The ad did suck.
The ad is stupid b/c it's irrelevant. McCain knows all about the internet he just spend all day on it himself. Considering presidents have better things to do than check drudge for news I don't care who goes online for him. ?Mocking a person b/c he doesn't use email due to a disability is, in the words of Biden, terrible. The fact that Obama's campaign didn't know that about McCain shows their inability to use the google. But more importantly it's irrelevant. Clinton sent a grand total of 2 emails his entire presidency, and one was just a test to make sure the email button worked.?

Really, caden? You're going to claim that his war injuries are why he can't use a keyboard? Really? That's the McCain line, but I thought for sure you wouldn't buy it. #1 His injuries don't actually prevent him from typing b/c he does type. and #2 even paraplegics have support in using technology. Frankly, I think he insults those with disabilities by trying to claim there are just things he can't do. Others have far greater hurdles yet overcome them. But, yeah, the ad is kind of stupid. It's just not insulting to a former POW.

Oh, in the name of all that is holy, can Nov. 4 get here already? Pleeeease?
The ad was dumb, no doubt. But neither campaign can claim they're putting out intelligent, reasonable ads designed to showcase themselves in a good light. Everyone and everything is about tearing the other guy down.
I understand why it's happening, but it's damn disappointing, especially since BOTH these candidates said this was something they wouldn't do. Sigh.
The horror! Biden's not a yes man!
It is a dumb ad isn't that why it's not on air anymore? Or maybe it's just not in Florida.
I'm with umwife - I'm thinking about wrapping myself in a tivo cocoon so I can stop seeing all the useless ads, etc.
my read shelf:
It's not a "line" that McCain can't use a keyboard b/c of his war injuries. That was reported in the Boston Globe all the way back in 2000.
http://graphics.boston.com/news/politics/campaign2000/news/McCain_character_loyal_to_a_fault+.shtml
His injuries also prevent him from being able to tie his shoes and combing his hair. I guess that makes him "intellectually incurious" about salon products.
From salon (2000)
http://www.slate.com/id/74812/
"Six months ago, no one would have pegged McCain as the most cybersavvy of this year's crop of candidates. At 63, he is the oldest of the bunch and because of his war injuries, he is limited in his ability to wield a keyboard. But McCain's job as chairman of the Senate commerce committee forced him to learn about the Internet early on, and young Web entrepreneurs such as Jerry Yang and Jeff Bezos fascinate him."
Judging McCain's intellectual curiousity is the stupidest recycled argument I've seen this election. Your side used it on Bush and you lost. Your side used it on Reagan, and you lost. Your side used it on Eisenhower, and you lost. Do you really want think it will work this time?
