Hi there--
I was just wondering if I could pick your brain a bit more about Park Slope. We are hoping to start a family soon, so hearing that it's a lot of families is good news... Do you live in the South or North Slope? And when you said noisy, which streets did you mean? We saw a great place on 5th Ave near 1st street, but heard 5th Ave is a nightmare for noise, so we're kind of shying away... where are you looking to move? Also, how often do you find yourself going into Manhattan, or does it seem really far away? Is it safe to walk around at night? Sorry, full of questions! Any more tidbits/tips would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
"We live there and love it. It is very very family friendly, actually some people think it is too family oriented. In fact, when our daughter was born it felt like we had joined the club. There are also a fair amount of hipsters about. It has lots of great shops and restaurants. Not a lot of chains. There are are a few groceries- a c-town which is pretty nice in south slope and a key foood in north slope. There is a Union Market in both (sort of like a gourmet garage). The only thing to be really careful about is that some streets can be really really loud. Ours is, and we are moving soon. We take walks by potential apartments at various times of day checking the volume level. feel free to ask any questions, but we love it here. "

We live in South Slope on seventh ave. for a lot of reasons, it is the perfect storm. For our search we are trying to stay off of all avenues. We are considering eighth ave or PPW, if the apartment or at least the bedrooms are in the back. We are really aiming for side streets, but even some of those are busier than others (we are being pickier than most people, however, due to being traumatized by this place). I think fifth ave, can be pretty loud too, we turned down a place there.
It is super easy to find mommy/baby groups here, it really is the best neighborhood, in my opinion, for families! There are so many great resources. Places to eat are baby friendly, the park is great, playgrounds are plentiful.
Manhattan isn't that far, but to be honest I hardly ever go there, or even need to. I was worried about that too, we moved from the UWS, and I thought I would miss it. Getting to the city with a baby can be a exhausting.
Pretty safe at night, although some of teh side streets are really quiet, which always makes me a bit nervous, and unlike central Park, prospect park is not always crowded, so I tend to avoid it on cold days or later in the day. There are definitely somepockets of sketchiness around, but I just happen to feel safer in crowds.
