Ok I need help/suggestions...food

I'm having a wine/cheese/apps game night next week with the girls.  USUALLY I just make some dip, throw some chips out, some beer bread and call it a day.  This time I wanted to make it a little nicer which is why I added the cheese/wine/apps to the invite.  However, I'm stuck for ideas.  What are some good, yet cheap and easy apps that you guys like or serve besides the cheese/crackers?  I need something that I can either make the night before or something that I can quickly make before people arrive.  I keep seeing these roll up type things on a Pillsbury commercial has anyone ever made these?  They look yummy.

Re: Ok I need help/suggestions...food

  • Of course you can come!  That's a silly question.
  • Any dietary restrictions?

I'm allergic to shrimp but other than that..no.

  • Well, the one wine tasting party I went to had chocolates & fruits (grapes, strawberries etc.) to go along w/ the different wines....so that's all I've got as far as suggestions go!

    Sounds fun!!

  • I was planning on fruit if it doesn't look scary.  You know how fruit is in the winter...
  • I love the chocolate and fruit idea! I make stuffed mushrooms that are always a huge hit.
  • Best homemade app I've had in a while: Bacon wrapped dates.

If you have a Trader Joes, you can get the dates from there, cut them in half, wrap a half a piece of bacon around, stick a toothpick through, bake on a drip-rack at 400 or 425 for about 20 minutes. DEEEEEE-lish!!

  • I'm inviting myself over too...

What about bruschetta or a caprese salad: basil, thick slices of tomato and mozzarella...

  • I have the most easiest dip EVER and everyone always raves over it.

    Jezzabelle Dip

    Block of Cream Cheese

Apricot Preserves (about 1/2 jar) with a little bit of Horseradish (to taste - about 1 to 2 Tablespoons) and freshly ground black pepper - mix all together and pour over the cream cheese.  Serve with triscuits - don't ask, but it HAS to be triscuits. Any variety will do, I prefer the light fat ones.

Even people who don't like horseradish dip love this and I'm always giving the recipe out. Altho its not much of a receipe.

  • At one of our recent work parties we also had bacon wrapped dates that were amazing.  I've also had bacon wrapped prunes, but the prunes were soaked in a soy sauce.  You could do fruits, veggies, bacon wrapped something, bruschetta, mini pizzas, 5 (or 7) layer dip, spinach dip in pumpernickel bread, proscuitto wrapped asparagus, mini cheesecakes....I love hosting these kind of parties :)
  • I always like the cream cheese pinwheels for apps.......tortillas, cream cheese, 1 pckg powdered dip, choice of meat (I like turkey or ham).  Mix cream cheese with powdered dip, spread on tortillas, cover with meat and roll.  Refrigerate for 1 hour before cutting into 1" pinwheels.

Another great way to put your dips to use!

  • OO OO OO Pick me!!! I got a fancy/easy & inexpensive one!

I made this on thanksgiving, bought the ingredients at target. Yes, really.  It impressed everyone, which was nice since I had a raging migraine and put like no effort in it.  There are a dozen varitaions on this - I actually just used whole cranberry sauce and some minced almonds, no preserves.  There are quite a few fancy looking crescent roll based apps on this website.  I have the cookbook and I have liked what I've tried so far.

    PS - it doesn't smell.

this!  really simple and easy!  You can make some 'crack dip', meatballs and sauce, cold taco dip (let me know if you want this recipe), caprese salad...   damn, now i'm starving!!!  Stick out tongue

  • Tammy, I'm coming to your house.  I'll bring some really awesome stuff...

Um jalapeno popper dip, um lots of chocolate stuff, and some wine.

  • You can't go wrong with prosciutto.  There are all kinds of quick and easy apps you can do with it.  I'd also suggest adding roasted red peppers and olives.
  • This is an amazing appetizer that is healthy, vegetarian, and pairs well with wine.  Rosemary Flatbread with Grapes and Honey. http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/rosemary-flatbread-with-blue-cheese-grapes-and-honey
  • You could always do the ever-popular cucumber sandwiches.  You could even use one of your dips as part of the ingredients!

  • You guys are awesome!  Thank you so much.  Good call on the olives and peppers too.
