Should we bring a present?
There's a 30th b-day party for our friend/neighbor tomorrow. They'll have food. Its BYOB and she asked me to bring chips. I'm also making a dip and loaning them our folding table and chairs.
Should we bring a gift, too? I'm never sure about these types of parties. We wanted to give him a decent bottle of booze, but his wife says he only ever drinks Bud Light. I can't give the guy a case of beer...any good ideas for a generic gift for a guy? For about $20 - $30?

Actually, I agree. Especially if they've asked you to bring a food item.

I was really hoping someone would say that! We're thinking of having a party for DH this year, and we certainly wouldn't expect gifts from anyone.
Thanks for the ideas.
I totally agree. Your gift is the chips, dip, and loaning of the tables. I would never expect people to bring a gift to any of our birthday parties ... them being their to celebrate is more than enough for us! And if they help with the party ... that's freakin' awesome! Occassionaly, a close friend who hasn't already contributed to the party will bring DH a bottle of booze or me a bottle of wine, and that's very nice! However, we both drink a whole heck of a lot more than Bud Lite, haha, so it's appropriate. I'd feel emberassed if someone brought some other kind of gift and/or someone who helped with the party brought a gift. It would just make me feel obligated ... and I have too many friends/aqaintences to be giving gifts every time a birthday rolls around!
