Contact wearers...

I currently use Acuvue Oaysis.  I hate them.

I have dry eyes to begin with a lot of the time, so my optometrist suggested these back when I first started wearing contacts.  I just can't take them anymore.

I understand there probably no contacts that exist that are comfortable to wear ALL day (meaning none exist where you don't want to rip yoru eyeballs out by the time nighttime comes).  But these are supposed to do that, but I can't even get through half the day before my eyes are so dry I'm using a whole bottle of eye drops just so I won't take a knife and cut them out.  She claims I'm wearing them wrong if they're doing that (???, I'm not THAT dumb lady).

So my question is...what brand do you wear, do you like them?  OR, do you know of a brand that will at least make it in my eyes for the day and not just halfway?

Re: Contact wearers...

  • I wear the same ones as well, and I agree about them drying out, especially living in the desert.  I used to wear the Focus 1-2 weeks and I really liked them.  They seem to be made of thinner material than the Acuvue.  With the Acuvue, I feel like they kind of turn into neoprene like texture after a while (if that makes any sense at all).
  • I don't have eyes that are nearly as dry as yours seem but i use Ciba Vision Air Optix and they seem to stay moist all day. They are suppose to be a breathable contact lens. My dr switched me last year since i stare at a computer all day.
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

  • I hope you find some that you like.  I know that I was using Acuvue and eventually I had thick green goup in my eyes (eew), even after just wearing them a few hours.  I ended up switching to glasses all the time because I couldn't stand the itching and goup.

(My ex husband hated me in glasses, so he paid for lasik - so no more contacts or glasses for me...until I turn 40 or so)

  • I wear Acuvue Hydraclear and don't have any major problems with them.  I think I have been a pretty lucky contact lens wearer- I have worn several brands over the last 15 years and really had no problems whatsoever.  I change them out when I feel like they are getting yucky.  I never sleep all night in them (just napping in them makes me feel weird).  And only rarely will I have a day when I can't stand to put them in or have to take them out.  (And that's usually d/t my allergies rather than the contacts).

  • I wear the same ones . . . and have to use the remoisturizing drops after about 4 hours . . . ugh.
  • Well I just figured eff it and scheduled a re-fitting appt. with my eye doc.  My cousin wears Purevision (Bausch and Lomb) and she swears by them so I'll give them a try if I can.

  • I had no problems with the regular acuvue kind you wear for a year when I was in HS. When I met DH in college, he liked me better in glasses, so now I only wear them on special occasions or when I want to wear sunglasses. I have oasys. They KILL my eyes and give me headaches, but I think it's more because I'm not used to them anymore. Also, being on the computer all day is terrible for ANY contacts because you blink less often.

Aria - you've got balls for getting that surgery! I just know I'd be the one to have complications and go blind. Maybe when I'm 80.

  • I had big problems with dryness and redness before getting lasik a few years ago.  All my problems were due to wearing contacts (I wore them for 10 years I think).  I think the last kind of contacts I wore was called Proclear.  I don't remember having problems with it, or any other dryness issues (aside from what I already had).  I'm sure there have been new, better contact products on the market since I had surgery 5 years ago though.  GL at your appointment.  That's total BS about your doctor just telling you you're wearing them wrong.  I'm pretty sure you know how to wear contacts Confused  The ones you're in probably just aren't right for you.

  • It's interesting that you're having such dry eyes, my eye doctor just tried to persuade me to switch to Acuvue Oaysis claiming that they were better, and I said no b/c they were like $4+ than my current contacts per box.  Sure glad I didn't!  I have worn Acuvue 2 for probably 4 years now, if not longer, and I have no problems with 'em.  However, if they're in my eyeballs for 14-ish hours, then they do start to dry out.  Will your eye doctor give you samples before you go and buy your next 6 month or yearly supply so you can find a brand that you like?

She'll give me samples.  So I'm good.

  • I wear acuvue oaysis and have no issues. I wear them all day from the moment I wake until igo to bed. I've never had issues and I don't need drops atg all. Sorry I'm no help. Maybe you need a perscription drop for chronic dry eye. Gl! That must be torture.
