I'm not a fan of my boss today . . .

So my boss has put himself in a really stupid situation with work . . . he sold his house and moved to Missouri 5 years ago and left another vet running the place.  The other vet embezzled from him, then left abruptly so my boss has been back for a year.

He started out easy to work for, etc.  Because of the financial position he has put us in, he cannot afford to sell the practice for what he wants . . . nor can he afford to hire another vet to work for him.  For the last year he has been stuck here while his wife is home in Missouri.

The distance has taken a toll on their marriage, but my boss is too much of a bewb to take the necessary steps to fix things.  This has made him unhappy . . . and he has been taking it out on all of us for a while now.

I've been really frustrated with him due to the things he has been saying and doing . . . some of which are NOT OK!  As his Practice Manager, I have tried to get him to understand that we can't cut certain corners . . . and he just doesn't care.  We have an unlicensed tech who has been performing exams, especially anything opthalmic . . . pulling teeth, etc.  Its illegal and we can have our license pulled for it.  To top it off, yesterday he tried to charge a client for services we never performed . . .s simply because he didn't like that we had come in on the low end of the clients estimate.  I caught him and fixed the invoice, but that is a deal-breaker with me.

Today I found out he called me a *** to a client.  This client sells Moxxor, some kind of supplement that they are trying to get vets to recommend for animals.  We have gone around and around with this client about carrying her product . . . my boss feels stuck because she always makes an appointment to see him, pays for him to examine a healthy pet, and then makes her sales pitch.  Finally, he asked me to tell her No.  I did, which made her mad no matter how nicely I spoke to her.

Today this client called and gave me super attitude . .. telling me she was setting up an appointment with the doctor so that she and another Moxxor salesman could review the product with him.  She was incredibly rude, and then finally said to me that my boss told her "Kate is a wonderful manager, but sometimes she can be a ***."  Instead of telling this client that he had asked me to deal with it because he is too much of a wuss, he totally undermined me to the client.

I feel incredibly hurt and disrespected.  I bend over backwards for my boss . . . have taken personal time away from my child in order to help him . . . have helped us to increase our revenue by 23% in only the last 3 months by working with some rescue groups and local charities . . . and he does this.  He also plays one side against the other with the techs and receptionists . . . and its backfiring.  I am the one who has to clean up his mess, so this is really frustrating me.

Sorry this is so long, but I'm super fired up about this.  I am to the point where I can't stand behind him because I don't believe in some of the things he is doing for our patients.  I need the income, but am considering looking for work somewhere else . . . perhaps even going back to working weekend graveyard shifts at the emergency clinic.

I'm so discouraged!

  • WOW What a jerk! I would deffenatly be looking for another job.

I can't believe that "client" told you he said that about you though. Or did she even know she was talking to you "Kate"?

She did.  I was doing the usual . . . taking a message and telling her I would pass it on . . . when she stated that he told her to insist that she pass the message on and then mentioned what he had said.  Of course my boss denies it, but he is a total liar lately so I can't trust him . . . and truthfully I believe the client.

  • I would screw this guy over by mentally checking out at work and not doing any more favors for him. Once he crossed your loyalty by calling you a bltch, it was all over.
  • The solution to this?

    SAHM :)
