Blender Recs

So last night I had a dumb moment...

I was making a smoothie (my smoothies are frozen fruit & low acid OJ) & the last few chunks of fruit were not moving towards the blade. I thought that I could stick a metal spoon in the blender w/o touching the blade..turns out I was wrong.

Anywho, I chipped part of the spoon so I threw that out. Then today, I was cleaning the blender & realized that there was a fine crack down the side :)

Which leads me to a new blender. No, I don't plan on sticking any spoons in the blender again :/ I am trying to decide if I should get a KitchenAid blender or a cheaper brand. I love my KitchenAid  mixer that I got from a bridal shower! I don't want to spend extra money if I can get something for the same value for a smaller price. I do like to buy things that last a long time.

So what do you think...KitchenAid blender? Or some other brand? What do you recommend?

Re: Blender Recs

  • FWIW we've had our KitchenAid blender for about five years now and it has never let us down. It typically makes quick work of whatever I am making and clean up is easy.  I can't really comment on other brands since thei is the only brand I've had.
  • Can you just buy a new carafe?  I have an Oster that's lasted for 8 years now.  Too bad I broke my carafe & now I can't find a new one!  Still, it was a good little blender.  You can usually find good deals on KA's outlet site.

  • I love the Kitchen Aid. You can get it at Bed Bath and Beyond with the 20% coupon!
  • mine is hamilton beech and it has worked just fine for years.

there are a few elements on the item that need to be metal and not plastic to ensure it lasts in the mechanism. that is key to getting a good one.

  • I love, love, love my kitchenaid blender. It makes short work of frozen fruit when I make smoothies.

(fyi: you can get refurbished models at their online outlet store, we got ours for $50).
