BR - so where CAN you use quilts?
MIL generously gave me two crib quilts today. They're very cute, but obviously I can't use them the way she's intending for me to (as covers during the winter, which is around June-August here) because of the SIDS risk.
I can't not use them because MIL will be expecting to see them in action (and is the sort of person who would ask about them) whenever she comes over to visit, which will probably be a couple of times a week......so what should I do with them? Maybe put them down as a sort of mini-rug for when we play on the floor? Any other ideas?
ETA: Oh and in totally unrelated news, I'm super excited because the nursery is getting painted today!!!!!! Well, sort of anyway - we spent all morning and afternoon taping and getting $*#@&$@! shelves off the wall (the previous owner used insane screws that we discovered had stripped heads AND glued them in place so we had to drill out the screws and then use a hammer to remove the shelves) and now Ben is doing the undercoat. So we should have paint on the walls in another week or two! I'm so excited because even though we've bought some stuff for the babies, it's all been very practical (carseats, cribs, etc.) and this is the first not-really-necessary-but-let's-make-it-pretty decorating we've done.

I have a ton if different baby blankets!! And I use a lot of them...
I have one quilt that matches the nursery hanging over the back of my rocker chair.
I use a few others as stroller blankets. Like if Alexa is sleeping in her car seat/stroller, I'll drape a blanket over the car seat to block out light so that she can sleep undisturbed (like if I'm at lunch or something). If you don't have a "Bundle Me" sack for the stroller, you can use the blankets to keep the babies warm in the stroller.
Also, I go to a lot of mom's classes where we use the blankets on the floor when we sit down with the babies... Yoga, Music Class. And if I go over to a friend's home, I'll bring a blanket so that I can put it on their floor for the baby to play on (so she doesn't spit up all over their carpet and so she isn't playing in their possibly not clean carpet).
If the quilts are very nice, you can hang on on the wall?

People seem to like gifting blankets. We got about 7. Other than the uses Malia suggested, we leave blankets all over the house so we don't have to run upstairs to get one.
In the summer I'm going to leave one in the car to put on the grass in the park.

well if you're talking about the quilt that comes w/a crib set, most of those are usually a thicker material aren't they? not sure if just mine is or if they all are. mine is so its only use is on the floor for her to play on.
now blankets, we have a ton of those. i only bought one and we have at least 8 or so b/c everyone thought we needed more blankets and gave us blankets as gifts!! Malia already mentioned pretty much everything I use them for...only other use i can think of is as a changing surface on the couch when we are downstairs and don't want to run upstairs to change her diaper. oh - and i put one down on her play mat too. even though the mat is machine washable, it's just easier to throw the blanket in the wash vs unhooking everything on the play mat to wash it.

I think pp's all have great ideas! I was wondering myself since I have no idea what to do with quilts either! I hate "wasting" things so I'm happy to know that it can still be put into good use.
Ooo, yay on painting the nursery! Sounds like a lot of work but I can't wait to see it when you guys are done!!
I really don't need to drill it in here because many people have already mentioned it but we had a large quilt from a neighbor and it was WELL used to play on the carpet. Just a smoother surface and can be cleaned easier.
I have to say, my daughter is almost 8 and the quilt is VERY well loved and has been washed many times and just gets better and better as it gets softer each time it's washed. It's held up well and one of my favorites to still snuggle up with!
I hung other blankets over the edge of the crib, back of a rocking chair and over the nursery door ( I never shut it).
Yup, they're the thick kind like what comes with a bedding set - they're not part of a set, but they're fluffy like that - so I'm thinking they're too thick for anything like draping over a stroller, etc. But they would be really useful for the floor, I think!
