(@) What is the worry with caffeine?
What will it do to your fetus if you overdo caffeine? My SIL is so crazy that she won't even have chocolate cake, nevermind that it barely has any chocolate, and even dark chocolate barely has caffeine. Aren't you allowed to have like one cup of coffee a day while pregnant now?

Re: (@) What is the worry with caffeine?
Some studies have shown that caffeine consumption increases miscarriage risk. This study controlled for morning sickness and still found a link:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/01/080121080402.htm
Women who consumed 200 mg or more of caffeine per day (two or more cups of regular coffee or five 12-ounce cans of caffeinated soda) had twice the miscarriage risk as women who consumed no caffeine, said Li. Women who consumed less than 200 mg of caffeine daily had more than 40 percent increased risk of miscarriage.
Normal miscarriage risk is 15-20% (I think).
I've also read that there's some link with heavy caffeine consumption during pregnancy and SIDS, but that was late 90's info. I don't know what the current word on that is.?
You're "allowed" to have whatever you want while pregnant
(unless you live in South Carolina where they have some crazy fetus laws). It depends on how much risk you want to take on given the info out there. I think it's funny that some really tiny risks are avoided throughout the whole pregnancy but when it comes time to give birth it's perfectly ok to have narcotics and get sliced & diced.
If it's a miscarriage worry, then wouldn't you be able to start having caffeine again after the first trimester? Like a moderate amount?
mr+ms, are you doing a natural childbirth?
I think so. I hardly ever consume caffeine anyway (well except for chocolate) so honestly I didn't pay much attention to this.
After 1st tri miscarriage risk goes down significantly so I'd guess the effect of caffeine on the risk would go down as well. I looooove coffee but quit drinking it this year. After 1st tri I had decaf and recently I have a cup of real coffee here and there. Not being dependent on it is actually a good thing in the end.
I'm going to try for a natural birth. We'll see how it goes
I'm confident of myself, but not of the hospital setting.?
further - all my girlfriends who have been pg recently developed strong coffee aversions immediately too... and from my anecdotal reading on my local, that seems very common. So... for many women it may end up moot.
All things in moderation, IMO (unless we are talkin heroin etc here
)
I am hoping that if I get pregnant I will develop a strong aversion to wine. It will make the transition much easier.
Haha good luck with that.
For some reason, since I've been pregnant, the smell of Jack Daniels is SO appealing to me. DH drinks it, and I'll just take a deep breath and smell it and it smells SO good. Obviously I'm not going to drink it, but wow, I have no idea why it smells so good to me all of the sudden.
This is problematic. I have always loved Jack Daniels.
I dislike coffee, and have all my life (even just the smell)... when I was pregnant, DH had to brew coffee and keep the pot hot - the smell of coffee was the only thing that helped settle my stomach.
I can see this one for sure. Also, I can see the raw fish--I don't get how that's okay the rest of the time!
Haha, as I have now discovered, this is just the beginning.
I still hate pickles, though.
Ummmm because it is so flarking GOOD!
Its actually quite healthy assuming from a reputable place
Mmm I do love sushi. I have had it twice during this pregnancy, although I have wanted it MANY more times than that.
I've also had an occasional half-glass of wine, which would probably get me burned at the stake on the baby boards.
Oh, how I miss sushi!! And prosciutto, which I had a couple of times, but mostly just drool over when mr. has it.
LOL! you are
!!
