Sometimes I think that media studies is so concerned with not being considered a legitimate form of study (and, one must admit, it attracts a lot of slackers who just want an excuse to watch TV) that they deliberately use big words in obtuse ways to sound important. Ongoing hegemony? Site of interaction? All that sentence is missing is the word "deploys" (as in "this show deploys women in the role of mothers" although I might not even be using that right) to be complete.

Yeah. Change "some" to "pretty much all of the" in the above sentence and that would be more truthful.
