50's themed bridal shower ideas.
I am hosting a bridal shower for my sister in June for about 50 guests. I would love to do a 1950's theme/Stepford Wife themed shower....we are currently making aprons as the favors for guests. I am contemplating purchasing the TV dinner trays to serve the food on. My mom and I plan on preparing most of the food for the shower and I am thinking along the lines of modernized comfort foods. Any suggestions/ideas for decor and food? I know you girls will have tons of great ideas! TIA.

Oh that's fun! I love the apron idea. It reminds me of the 50's Prime Time Cafe in Disney World. (Here is a link for inspiration: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/hollywood-studios/dining/50s-prime-time-cafe/)
I picture gloves, heels, dresses and aprons, lots of flowers. (like Martha Stewart's house must look like) I just saw some cute 50's decor at Target. Is there any way to make the food look like TV dinners?
I was looking through The Knot and found this the other day:

I plan on doing this for my sister, who LOVES everything retro. It has really cute decorating ideas!
For food, I think Coke bottles would be a nice and simple touch. If you have champagne, try to use those plastic cups that are flat (forget what they're called) not the tall trumpet kind.
When I think 50's I think meat and potatoes. So, either burgers, fries and milk shakes or pot roast and mashed potatoes. Ohhh! How about a mashed potatoes bar? Though, that's kind of contemporary.
For decor, I would try to use vintage/patterned/flowers table cloths that you might be able to borrow from older family members. Maybe they'll have old punch bowls and serving trays that you could use too.
I think it might be fun to have the guests (or at least the hosts) wear their aprons at the shower to get everyone in the mood. Something else you can do is make sure that the hosts are wearing pearls at the shower.
I think music could help bring everything together too. Not sure if the Stepford Wives movie has a soundrack that you can check out.
HTH! Sounds like fun.
