Moms - A Q?

Sorry to be posting a BR question here but this is where I feel most comfortable. I've been feeling so down lately. I've had a diagnosis of depression for almost 10 years, but when I'm on my meds (Celexa) I am able to manage it really well. I don't know if this is exhaustion or PPD a little late in the game but all those feelings are coming back - anxiety, sadness, worthlessness, hopelessness. Does PPD hit this late? Or is it just exhaustion from being at home with a 5 month old who has decided sleeping is no fun?

Re: Moms - A Q?

  • It can happen when your baby is two years old.  It's not too late for this to be PPD.  Especially if you have been diagnosed with depression already.  I would go and see your doctor.  Not to mention you ARE tired and depression can be made worse by lack of sleep.  Is there anyone who can give you a break so you can get a good nights sleep?

  • Aww hugs.

Definitely give your doctor a call. It would not be unusual timing for the onset of PPD. Even if it is exhaustion, your doctor will be able to assist.

Do you have a public health nurse/family home visitor, coming to see you? They can come by for weekly visits that I have found have been really useful for the moms that I volunteer with.

  • You have gotten some good advice, I just wanted to let you know that there is a PPD board on the Bump now incase you are interested.
  • I don't know if you saw my reply from the PPD board but with DS I was fine up until 5 months or so and with DD it showed up after only 2 weeks and there are some who it takes up to 2 years.  I also see a therapist once a month.

I find that I am much better on Celexa and I am actually really glad that I didn't wait too long this time.

  • Aww I am so sorry, please go to the doctor it can set in whenever and with a history of it, you might have had the signs/symptoms earlier and never really noticed until recently.
