Medical question

So I woke up w/ a cold last Thursday...not big deal except my left ear has been plugged up since then and it's driving me nuts! It's like I have water in it (I know that I don't) or like I'm in an airplane. I can't for the life of me get it to pop and it's so uncomfortable. My question is should I head to the doctor or try and wait it out? I was going to go in, but I don't even know what they would do for this, if they could do anything at all. I've been taking decongestants hoping that would help, but no luck. Any insights?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Medical question

  • Not that I'm a medical professional in any way, but my mom always used to do this for me and it would do the trick. So...take it as you will!

Take a cotton ball and soak it in rubbing alcohol.  Squeeze one or two drops from cotton ball into your ear with your head turned sideways.  The rubbing alcohol might absorb whatever is clogging it and evaporates really quickly.

  • Have you tried a antihistamine? Courtney has severe seasonal allergies and its what her ENT suggests when her ears plug up.

  • Is is possible there is wax plugging your ear? This has happened to DH a couple of times. I forgot the name of it, but there are some OTC drops that help to dissolve the wax and that's what worked best for DH.

This happened to my DH too.  His Dr told him to buy Swim Ear drops and follow the directions.  His ear cleared up pretty quickly.  HTH!
