5th grader suspended for anti-obama shirt
That's the least of the kid's problems. His parents named him Daxx.

The fifth grader at Aurora Frontier K-8 School wore it on a day when students were asked to wear red, white and blue to show their patriotism.
The boy's father Dann Dalton describes himself as a "proud conservative" who has taken part in some controversial anti-abortion protests. Dalton says the school made a major mistake by suspending his son for wearing the shirt.
"It's the public school system," Dalton says. "Let's be honest, it's full of liberal loons."
According the the boy's father, the school district told the student, Daxx Dalton, that he had the choice of changing his shirt, turning his shirt inside out or being suspended.
Daxx chose suspension.
"They're taking away my right of freedom of speech," he says. "If I have the right to wear this shirt I'm going to use it. And if the only way to use it is get suspended, then I'm going to get suspended."
Daxx's dad agrees with him and is encouraging his son to stand his ground. "The facts are his rights were violated. Period."
Aurora Public Schools would not talk about the case but said the district "Respects a student's right to free speech, such as the right to wear specific clothing," but administrators say they review any situation that interrupts the learning environment.
Paperwork submitted by the school district says Daxx Dalton was not suspended for wearing the shirt, but for willful disobedience and defiance.
The boy's father says he intends to pursue a lawsuit against the district.

Yep, it's been pretty firmly established that schools can regulate students' dress and speech while passing constitutional muster.
What's sad is (a) this kid's dad actually thinks Dems are terrorist lovers or will be soft on terrorists, and (b) he will dress up his 5th grader as a piece of political propoganda. I might even be more sympathetic to this case as a free speech matter if the speech were coming fom the student himself, but he's clearly parroting what Dad told him to say.
I actually side with the dad here, but his kid's right to wear this stuff went out the window with the conservative Supreme Court's bong hits 4 jesus case. His lawsuit will not go very far.
I don't really like the whole parents using their kids as political pawns aspect to it, but it happens every day on both sides of the aisle. And there's a fine line between this and parents teaching their kids not to say the pledge of allegience for political reasons. I think he should have used some judgment as to what is an appropriate political message for school grounds, but whatever. I don't think kids should get suspended for this stuff.
But I'm a little out there on my first amendment views.
Anyone want to venture a guess as to whether this kid even knows WHY he supposedly thinks Obama is a friend of terrorists?
It's not even his own freedom of speech - it's freedom of his dad's speech.
I hope the dad does pay a ton of money for a lawyer, sue the district, and lose.

Yeah but then the taxpayers spend money defending this.
Except they didn't suspend him for the tshirt itself, they suspending him for his behavior when they told him it violated the dress code. ?
