I'm wondering if you know the answer to this.
I think it's likely that McCain will put Lieberman in his cabinet. I know before the crisis, Dodd was almost certainly going to become Treasury Secretary if Obama won, but that's looking less likely now, though it's probably still in the realm of possibilities.
What would CT's process be for replacing them? I know some states have laws that trigger special elections for a person to take over that senator's remaining term and other state's let the governor appoint someone to take over the remaining term.
I know CT's governor is a republican, so if it's the latter, that's one more R Senate seat, which is why I'm curious, since the balance is so close right now.
Just curious if you know how it is done.
Re: PGH - Connecticut question...replacing senators?
Our Gov is a Republican, yes, but she is really RINO. The Gov would name the replacement... on the one hand I wouldnt put it past her to name a Dem because that is how she is... but she really SHOULD name a R IMO... here's why: the republicans are the ones who elected Lieberman this time. It was NOT the Democrats... so IMO the "right" thing to do would be to appoint a Republican.
I am not sure what she would do with Dodd but I for one would be glad to be rid of him either way. I HATE him.
I could see her saying she wants to do a special election though. I heard an interview on the local morning talker a while ago when they asked about this and I wish I could remember exactly what she said... but it was awhile ago. I do remember her answer was very ambiguous.
Interesting. Keep us posted if you hear of anything, I'll be very curious. Who controls the legislature there? I know when Kerry was running for president and Romney was still in MA, the MA dems in the state house changed the law to create a special election so Romney wouldn't be able to appoint an R.
I'm guessing Obama wouldn't appoint Dodd to anything if he thought it would hurt the dems majority in the Senate, but I don't think there's any question that McCain would pull Lieberman out.
The Dems control the legislature.
I think that appointing a Rep to replace Lieberman would be a legit decision. Dodd however I could see the Gov suggesting a special election instead. Im sure if she was to appoint a rep to replace him, the state would go apesht.
