Re: Taxes Poll

  • My dad is a CPA and has his own business so he's always done my taxes.  He's my financial planner extradonaire too :)  Before this year, DH did his himself.
  • Fi has always done his himself.  He's a simple file, so it works.  I have always had mine done.  This year I did them myself... on Turbo Tax.  Filed last Saturday, refund was in my account on Friday.  I own a home, have student loans, have deductions for the fostering and dog rescue work and it was pretty easy overall.
  • DH is a CPA and I'm a finance administrator.  If we took them to be done by someone, we should both be fired from our jobs for incompetence!

  • We always do our own taxes, as do both sets of parents which is probably why we do. Even last year, when we got married and had to file in 2 states we managed them ourselves.
  • The last couple years we've used Turbo Tax online and it's been easy enough to manage. We don't have a ton of deductions so that helps, but it's nice how they guide you through each thing.

  • DH does ours, although he did mention with all that's gone on this past year he may have to have his friend who is in the tax business look them over.

    Anniversary
  • I voted "we take them in to get them done" but this is the first time we'll be doing so.  We used TurboTax last year and felt a little uneasy about what it did for us.  We have to file in multiple states bc DH works with his brother to write marching band music for high schools across the country, so it's a little strange.

  • Usually I do my own but since this year I'm going to have more deductions then income I am going to have them done so I can have audit support.
  • This is our first married year, and DH owned a 3 family house before we got married, so we have them done to sort through all the rental stuff we claim, etc.
  • Usually we do them on Turbo Tax because our taxes have always been fairly simple, but this year we're having someone else do them for us because we had a lot of complicated crap last year.

  • We use Turbo Tax.  2009 was a bit more complicated (rentals and house sale) so we bought the Premier version.  We haven't started doing them yet.  With the baby as a deduction I'm hoping for a decent return!
