new to the board and #'s ?
Hi! I was hoping you ladies could help a new girl...what do you think is the perfect number of guests (including yourself and H) for a dinner party?
I ask because I really want to throw one, but our group of friends is kind of big..so I'm looking at 12 if I don't want to have anyone feeling left out. I'm not sure this is manageable with our kitchen/dining space. What would you do??
Re: new to the board and #'s ?
You can certainly have people over for a more casual evening without seating for everyone. You just need to plan accordingly- more fingery foods, maybe appetizers, or a meal on a low table with lots of pillows . It can still be elegant and fun and fancy, but maybe not what you envision.
If you want a full on sit down dinner with centerpieces, placecards, and favors then you need places for everyone to sit. I don't know your home, but you may be able to get creative and swap rooms, borrow a bigger table, put some smaller tables together, etc.
I guess it depends on what you consider a dinner party and how creative you want to get.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
Be creative! I once held a sit down dinner party for 16 people. Our dinning room table only holds 4! First, we moved the some of the living room furniture to other rooms and set up tables in the living room. We borrowed a table and used a folding table, in addition to our dinning table. I mixed and matched the tablecloths, so no one could tell that the tables were different. I used my nice china mixed in with my regular dishes. (my regular dishes complement my china). I could go on and on, but I think that you get the idea.
Good luck! Have fun!
