clicky poll: f/u to beck's post
Beck's post got me thinking. It sounds like most people here have coverage for maternity leave, which is awesome, but I didn't think that was the norm.
Assume you would be going on ML sometime in the next year (and have time to purchase an individual STD plan, if wanted/needed).
ETA: The first options should read 'fully/partially covers MY INCOME DURING maternity leave'

Re: clicky poll: f/u to beck's post
I'm too stoopit to answer this poll. I applied for NJ State STD. STD in NJ is a % of your pay but there is a cap to it so it's not that great.
I have to apply for STD which i get paid 67% of my pay for 6-8 weeks and my employer covers the rest
on top of that NJ just passed the NJ FLMA in July which includes an additional PAID (at 67%) 6-8 weeks and then we can do the unpaid 12 weeks under the gov FMLA.
So total I'll have about 12 weeks at 67% pay (the 6 weeks my employer covers, i'm told will cover our health insurance and possibly give me a little extra)
One thing my momma (so country) always drilled into me was make sure I have STD. So even though they didn't pay me at 100%, what they did pay me was helpful.
Also another thing to look at is how quickly they pay you out. I was paid at 14 days from my hospital admittance date, but I think if you want a lower premium it can go as late as 30 days from admittance date.
Whatevah ! gimme my monehhhhh !
For real? Your state covers STD? At no cost to you? That's pretty cool.

This. Although my policy was covered thru Unum. Oh and I forgot the District also gave me 2 weeks extended leave, on top of any vacation and sick hours that were used first.
I don't have any STD's!! You girls should go to the doc and get your antibiotics
Just kidding, I couldn't help myself! Um, I'm pretty sure I don't have any std coverage but I need to make sure. It would be time I'd take off by my own will and since I need something like 3 years of tax returns to actually count my income as actual income...
Im an idiot! What is STD? Not the disease! lol
Obviously if there were to be an oops, I have no idea what I have or what I'd do! lol
short term disability
Britt- don't feel dumb, I was about to ask the same thing.
?? Am I the only one who could only get paid if I had the sick days to use? And I could only get paid for up to 30 days- after that, zilch?
???
It works the same way as unemployment benefits.
New Jersey state temporary disability for pregnancy & maternity leave. Your NJ benefit will replace 2/3 of your income up to $546 per week.
I think it's different for teachers because they assume that you should plan around being off in the summer months so they think your disability should go there. Stupid but that's what I"m guessing. OR you should get a student teacher and just let them take over during that time
i'm the first attorney to have a baby so we didn't have a policy and i just submitted my proposal and am crossing my fingers i get it.
i asked for the following:
16 weeks off (coming back after july 4th holiday - Gerrie, we'll be up in NJ for july 4th, maybe down the shore, mark your calendar!!)
6 weeks full pay
if they need me to work during my leave i work 100% from home and will be paid 1/3 of what i'm billed out at to clients and they do not bother me until i'm at least 8 weeks after birth, and i have the option to say no without a guilt trip (i worded it better in my proposal).
i also pay out of pocket for STD through a payroll deduction. that will cover 60% of my salary for 6 weeks (assuming vaginal delivery, 8 weeks if a C) so i'll have a few weeks unpaid, though since my boss fired our other attorney, i'm expecting to be making some money during the end of my leave working at home nights/weekends when TJ is around.
i'm crossing my fingers he accepts my proposal with no changes!!
