D and I have been in a hell hole for 3 years now. When my bro decided to up and move to Austin, we were super duper rushed into finding a new place so quickly that we didn't have time to look and basically took the first thing that we came across. It was fine when we moved in until the first rain happened. The ENTIRE back stretch of the house which includes the kitchen, hall bath, master half bath, and master br floods every time it rains. I mean we live in LA it's not like it rains that often or anything <insert sarcasm here>
We have actually been wanting to buy for about two years but with my miffed up credit thanks to the wife-beater aka step-father, it hasnt been possible. Debt is almost paid off (see ticker below woot woot) but it will still take some time to repair the score to a decent place in order to buy. We were trying to wait it out at our current place because I didnt want to have to move again to another rental and then again into our house.
MONTHS actually years now have gone by and nothing that is affordable that has a yard that meets our needs has been available. I look every single day of life.
About two weeks ago, one of the outlets in our living room fried the cord to our portable heater (no, we dont have heat either). It concerned me but we just stopped using it. Sunday the two other outlets in the living room went out. So three out of the 4 outlets in the living room dont work. This paired with the 3 inches of standing water in my kitchen that happened on Friday did me in. I was done and knew that it was only a matter of time before I or all of my belongings went up in flames. The landlord is a joke and could care less about any of it. D and I slave over that house keeping it from rotting below us and we've had enough.
Getting to the point, yesterday I found an adorable house that had just been reduced by 300 bucks a month so I quickly called the lady and she said she had one opening to show it in 15 minutes. Luckily it's super close to work so I rushed over there. ADORABLE. We loved it. Dropped 2K on it to make sure it was ours and will be moving in the next two weeks.
D's best friend lives down the street as well as a coworker of mine and I actually used to live in the same 'hood about 5 years ago. We are SO relieved and SOOO super excited. It isn't owning but at least we will be safe, be in a great neighborhood, and wont have to worry about the extra expense of owning right now.
Re: Deets on the move....(yikes it's long...sowy)
That is GREAT!! I hope you can post pics! And I know what you mean about looking everyday, I do that same. Actually I just e-mailed DH a house I found..hehe.
I hope you were able to take the $ you spent on fixing the place and removed it from your rent check-and sent a copy of the bill for whatever you've done, but if not.... glad to hear you're getting into an adorable place! YAH!
Yeah he should pay you your security deposit plus!! What an @sshole! Maybe we can just pray for karma to work it's magic on him!

That is awesome. I am so glad for you. There's a website called apartmentratings.com where you can complain about bad landlords. I wish there was one so you could complain about this guy!
We had pig with lipstick apartment in Hollywood that we bailed on after a year for similar issues. I still get angry thinking about that nasty place.
Congrats on finding something much better!
