Anyone have a good cake recipe?

I am making dinner this weekend for DH and picked up a cute heart-shaped cake pan in the V-day isle. Does anyone have a really good cake recipe? Something more than the box cakes I usually make :)

Re: Anyone have a good cake recipe?

  • This is my absolute favourite chocolate cake......I make it about once a month....super moist and choclatey...mmmmmmmmm!

    • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 cups white sugar
    • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 2 teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 cup strong brewed coffee
    • 1 cup buttermilk (or 2tbsp vinegar and milk to equal 1 cup)
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    1.    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans or one 9x13 inch pan.

    2.    In large bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the center.

    3.    Add eggs, coffee, buttermilk, oil and vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed. Batter will be thin. Pour into prepared pans.

    4.    Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 to 40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center of cake comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and finish cooling on a wire rack. Fill and frost as desired.

  • This recipe is soooo easy & soooo good.  I'm not a fan of that cherry pie filling but in this recipe it makes the cake extremely moist & you really cannot even taste it.  I do recommend the chocolate frosting on the top!!

    CHOCOLATE CHERRY CAKE
    1 box chocolate cake mix
    1 can cherry pie filling
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. almond extract (opt.)
Hand mix all ingredients and pour into greased 9"x13" pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. May frost with chocolate frosting or to taste.

Variation: Substitute spice cake mix and apple pie filling for chocolate cake and cherry pie filling. Follow the above directions.

  • i have a yummy one that is made with fresh strawberries.  i post it tonight!

  • My mom makes this for my birthday (without the walnuts) - it is so delish!

    Banana-Sour Cream Cake

1 pkg. (2-layer size) yellow cake mix
    3   eggs
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 3 bananas)
1 cup  BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
    1/4 cup oil
1 pkg.  (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
1 pkg.  (16 oz.) powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
1 cup PLANTERS Walnut Pieces, finely chopped

PREHEAT oven to 350?F. Grease and flour 13x9-inch baking pan; set aside. Beat cake mix, eggs, bananas, sour cream and oil in large bowl with electric mixer on low speed just until moistened, stopping frequently to scrape bottom and side of bowl. Beat on medium speed 2 min. Pour into prepared pan.  BAKE 35 min. or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.  BEAT cream cheese and butter in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Gradually add sugar, beating well after each addition.  Frost top of cake with frosting. Carefully press walnuts into frosting on sides of cake. Store in refrigerator.
