Anyone with younger brothers or sons

My brother was intially taught to go to the bathroom sitting down. I thought this was normal (my limited scope of course). John and I were discussing this last night and he thought it was imasculating. What do you think? When they are first potty trained aren't most toliets too high anyway?

Re: Anyone with younger brothers or sons

  • My nephew is taught sitting down (he's 4) but yes, you're right...he can climb up the toilet, but there's no way he can do it standing for a couple years. Can't reach!
  • I don't think that I'd say it is imasculating.  Their aim can't be good when they are that little and then who's going to clean the pee off the floor?

I think when my mom was PTing my "baby" brother, she initially taught him sitting down as well.  But I'm pretty sure he pees standing up now that he's older.

  • I'd think sitting down as well.  Even the potty chairs have that little "shield" for boys to learn to pee sitting down.

  • We're teaching Cole to pee sitting down. We've tried it with him standing up on the toilet and it just doesn't work. Now we do occassionally let him try peeing in the backyard (it's fenced) so he gets the idea that he is supposed to pee standing up. He also sees my husband peeing.
  • My youngest brother is the only one I remember being potty trained (he's 17 yrs younger than me). They taught him sitting down. Both of my nephews have been taught sitting down as well. Every now and then their dad will have them stand on the seat and work on "aiming" lol.
