So, J went and scoped out Mount Whitney and took a few more pics. The yard looks lovely. Roses along the fence. A garden arch with bouganvillea.
It has great bones, he said. The kitchen will really be great after we (eventually) update it. The whole place is totally stuck in the 80's. The cabinets and fixtures need updating. The carpet and paint needs a serious re-do, but that's easy. The pool and spa definitely work, but their equipment may need replacing in the next few years. The trim paint is peeling.
I found a twin comp with a much smaller lot and a single-lane lap pool + spa that sold for $285. We won't go that high at all. I can't believe someone did. It was in terrible shape. The pool was nasty.
He said Mesa Alta was better overall. I'm going to see it Mount Whitney on Sunday. We're going ahead with an offer, although the Realtor feels fairly certain we'll get Mesa Alta. It's just a matter of when.
Re: Mount Whitney Update
Does DH think it is worth putting an offer in?
We're going to offer $265k. Since there's no HOA and the taxes are low, this works out to about the same as Mesa Alta at $250k, monthly-payment-wise.
I'd have to see the house before I go higher.
Aack. All of your nice posts read like the nice way to say "Dude, we're tired of hearing about this."
Ok... I with resist and desist with the updates.
No way!
I love hearing the updates. I know the house search can be sucky, but it's so gratifying when you get that "one" and can move in. I'm living vicariously through you because I enjoy seeing all the homes you're looking at
If anyone gets tired of the updates they don't have to read.
I'm just glad you have options . . . just think about how little you would have been able to look at in your price range just a few years ago!
Reading your updates makes me think you need to be on the show House Hunters...love that show. I hope it all works out for you.
