my dad started in West Palm Beach county holding and my mom and i went up there for visiting hours last saturday and they told us no b/c my dad hadn't filled out a visitors log. of course we didn't know about that. i asked the guard if someone could tell my dad he had to do that and they said no, but i could tell my dad if he calls me. so frustrating.
so he got moved to Miami Federal Detention Center and as soon as he got there he filled out a form for visitors, but only immediate family could be on the list (so not even TJ). Since my last name is different than his, i had to send him my marriage certificate. found that out on friday and did that but i knew it wouldn't get there for saturday visiting hours. so i went down on saturday anyway and brought a copy of my maiden name passport, my married name passport and my marriage certificate. they wouldn't let me in and wouldn't let me hand them my marriage certificate, it had to be mailed to my dad and he had to turn it in. soooo frustrating. since i'm an attorney, my dad did list me as his financial matters attorney, so i pulled out my bar card to see if that would let me see him and they said that was fine, and i could go see him but that my mom and grandpa couldn't because then the metting was privleged.
i didn't want to do that because as an attorney, i can actually go and see my dad anytime. my dad only has 4 hours of visitation a month right now, so we are going to use 1 hour a week. my visits with my dad don't count against that 4 hours, which is nice. so i sat in the car and read while my mom and grandpa visited with my dad.
i'm going to see him tomorrow. i'm crossing my fingers that i've done everything i'm supposed to do. i'm very nervous about seeing him. he was on an anti-depressant when he went into prison, so they wouldn't let him have a razor for fear that he would try to commit suicide. he's italian, so let's just say he needs to shave every day. ![]()
also, apparently, he caught some sort of "bed bug" or something when he was in west palm beach (so disgusting) and my mom said it looks like he has the chicken pox, though it is healing now.
he is only at this miami facility until they place him at his permanent place, they say it could be anywhere from a couple of weeks to 6 months. it will be nice when we finally know where he is going to end up, learn all the procedures for that facility and start setting up some routines.
Re: carrie! this is a long one :)
Wow. That is no fun at all.
At the very least until they get your name thing straightened out at least you can see him as his attorney.
For my brother anyone can see him - family or not - and he doesn't have to have a list. I hope you guys get something like that when he gets to his perm. place. When he was at county he had a list of 4 people and could only change it once a month but that kinda worked out because between my parents, me, and DH we made 4 so it wasn't terrible.
I can only imagine how hairy he is! DH has a very small amount of Italian in him and he's gotta shave every day pretty much! I can't imagine what these bed bugs are - George was fortunate not to get that, but he did get a nasty case of the flu (possibly the swine) this year and he said that was awful. But everyone else got it so I can only imagine how bad that was!
Hopefully he'll get to his perm place sooner rather than later - George was much happier once he knew he was where he'd be for the duration...although they're getting ready to move him because they're bringing in Gitmo prisoners to PA and bringing PA people to VA to my brothers place and shipping our VA people to other VA prisons. Its a huge hassle, but he said now its practically empty so its kinda nice haha
i'm hijacking this post.
jen, i just want to give you a great big hug.
this!
Hugs

And... virtual drinkies don't hurt babies, so let's all have one of these too..
I'm so sorry sweetie. Why do these people have to be so nasty!
This!
awww, thanks, guys! it is crazy, its only been 2 weeks since he went "away" but it seems so much longer....while at the same time, in pregnancy weeks it feels like it is flying by - weird.
i got a little disappointing news this morning, apparently my dad's commissary delivery (socks, sneakers, underwear, hygene products, etc) is today from 10 - 12 and he is afraid to miss it and REALLY needs it, if you know what i mean. so i postponed my visit until tomorrow at lunch. i felt so bad, he seemed so torn, i know he wants to see me but i know he needs these items too, so i told him it was just easier to see him tomorrow for me so he wouldn't miss the delivery.
i guess if he misses his delivery, then he would have to wait until saturday and i couldn't imagine going as long as he has already without those basics.
thanks, ladies, for being so supportive! i appreciate it sooooo much!
The time thing is the strangest. My brother has been in for 3 years this past Nov. It feels like forever, but at the same time it feels like it's flying because I can't believe we have 2 1/2 years left! George says the same thing - it flys but it drags at the same time. Its almost one of those things you have to experience to understand.
I remember when George was waiting for his things - he was very unhappy about it. I think he went a week without a shower because he didn't have anything to shower with. Part of me is surprised they don't provide basic hygeine products just for health reasons - but let's face it, states/feds are cheep so then again I can totally understand why they dont want to just dish out that stuff when they can make the inmates pay for them.
