I don't know if this is BR or not. I had one normal AF after the postpartum bleeding stopped. Then after the second one, I was to start my BCPs again. It started on a Sunday, so I started my pill pack with it
Well, the second one was REALLY HEAVY - way heavier than AF has ever been. So on the 5th day (Friday), it just got heavier as it went on, I went into the dr's office and the OB told me to take one pill every 6 hours until it stopped (also gave me a Rx for Zofran b/c apparently that can make you nauseous) , then start another pack. Ok, so I started a new pill pack on a Wednesday. I started AF again that Saturday. 4 days later. UGH. and she's still here... and it's been 11 days. 11. ELEVEN.
I'm hoping the dr will call again tomorrow (or maybe the next day if the weather prevents the dr's from getting to the office) to give me some more advice. I spoke with them today b/c my u/s results came back (I was having pain in lower abs, nothing showed up except varicose veins in my uterus - who even knew that was possible???), so they wanted to tell me everything was normal.
Anyway, anyone else experience abnormal bleeding like this?

Wish I had some insight for you--- fortunately, I haven't had AF since ... my last missed period! Insane. . .

i have no idea b/c i haven't gotten my first pp period yet but maybe it's just your hormones all out of whack, trying to get back to normal? my very first period when i was younger was 17 days!!! yep, 17. imagine how petrified i was that it was going to be that way for the rest of my life =P i'm guessing it was just my body going through all the hormonal changes typical of puberty.
like i said, i have no idea...but if it's not just the hormones, then i hope i hope your ob can figure it out!

I'm glad you had an US. They didn't see anything that was causing the bleeding? My SIL had horrible bleeding due to a ruptured cyst. It can be serious.
I have no idea what it could mean in your case. If I had pain and excessive bleeding, I would get a second opinion. I don't have that issue... but, I've had stomach issues and allergy issues that were dismissed. I went to several different drs who couldn't figure it out. They had that kind of shrug, happens to everyone sometimes... happens to some people all of the time... nothing to worry about. After 10 years, my condition escalated to anaphylactic shock. It was only because of the severity that I was diagnosed. I know, completely different case. It just makes me realize that a doctor, even a specialist, can make mistakes. If you have any concern that you are not getting your problem resolved, see another doctor.

I'm glad you're getting it checked out, just in case it's something serious.
That said, i agree with a pp who mentioned it may simply be hormones readjusting. I got my first period when I was 11, and from then until I was about 16, they were VERY heavy and lasted for around 2 weeks at a time. Eventually they settled down a bit, but it did take years - it was just all the insane puberty hormones making things go crazy. I know you're not going through puberty, but you get what I'm saying.
My ob thinks the pill might be part of the problem, but I haven't warmed to the idea of an IUD yet and I got pg really easily, so I'm afraid of less effective methods. I asked about Essure but I am not a candidate.
I didn't have long periods on the pill, but I did on the implant (Implanon). For some reason - the dosage of hormones or whatever - it made my periods last longer. I should add that they were lighter - but they lasted at least a week, minimum.
