Dust Collectors

I don't like dust collectors.  Trinkets, knick-knacks, collectibles, souvenirs, etc.  Stuffed animals are the worst offenders.

So what does grandpa buy Scarlett?  Stuffed animals and Pez dispensers, every chance he gets.

At first, I was annoyed.  But when Scarlett got a box yesterday with a pink princess Valentine bear bigger than she was, her face lit up and she giggled and grabbed for that thing like it was a long lost friend.

Ok.  Heart melted.  Stuffed animals are allowed.

Re: Dust Collectors

  • Aw...so sweet.

In a year of marriage and 2 rounds of holidays, DH and I have already been given countless knick-knacks...some nice ones like lladro's, some cheap crap.  Thankfully, my family doesn't visit often enough to notice if we are/aren't displaying their trinkety gifts!

  • I am such a knick knack person.  Its ridiculous.  I purge about once a year though b/c I also hate clutter.  I guess I'm the definition of oxymoron there.

  • Aw! I'm not good with collections of clutter, but I think a kid needs a few stuffed animals. If they're stuffed animals that don't every get the tags removed, can't be played with, and sit on a shelf, then that's bad. But something to hug and drool on is A-OK with me :).
  • Ugh stuffed animals that just sit around are the worst! And when you have a big family like I do, people find out what you like (I liked pigs & eeyores as a kid) and buy you hoards of it. When I moved out, I took NONE. Just thinking about all the money spent on junk that could have gone into my college fund makes me sad.

Maybe you can make a rule that the pez & stuffed animal collection stays at grandpa's?! I have a feeling we're going to need that rule with MIL and her obsession with cheap noise making toys *shudder*

  • uuuuuugh I cant stand clutter!

Like Kristy said, My family knew I liked Elephants and Asain stuff..thats  ALL I got for like I dont know 10-15 years. I have finally put my foot down and said no more.

Plus its totally a cop out on gifts, they dont have to think about waht to get me, just get the standard random elephant. NO MORE!

  • Awww I need pictures of Sweetface and long lost pink BFF.
  • I'll take some because we want to send some to grandpa too as a thank you.
  • My house gives me anxiety attacks because of this.  I am a minimalist and P is a pack rat.  I can't stand crap out that collects dust and he won't throw anything away.  His sister, as a joke, bought all three brothers and me small stuffed care bears and guess what has been on display in my living room for the past 5 years because he throws a fit when I try to take them down.  UGHHHH.
