I think I might not be crazy enough
Mrs.AngelaA's post intrigues me. There are always well-thought opinions on here so I want to ask:
[Poll]
I'm somewhere in the middle. I think we put a lot of chemicals in/on our bodies without realizing it, but I haven't seen a lot of compelling evidence that it's correlated with illness the way some marketing implies.
Re: I think I might not be crazy enough
I believe that a lot of companies are using it is a marketing tool but not really cleaning up their products. On top of the chemicals and hormones in our food we are marketing sugar cereal with labels of whole grain. Well, just because it is whole grain doesn't mean that it is healthy. So I think that consumers fall into a false sense of healthy eating.
I think that more research will continue to be released about the products that we consume and we will see more regulations. I know that in Maine they have removed hormones from milk and milk producing cattle because of side effects. I think that this is the type of changes that we will see.
I just look at it as being a more "natural" way of life. I work out and eat right, so why not start living more naturally all together?
That is just my humble opinion. Its not happening overnight for me, but I am doing it little by little.
This is where I am for the most part. I don't have time to cook all day nice healthy meals for DH and I and sometimes a Smart Ones is the way I go. It helps with portion control and is easy. But, for the most part, I'm trying to cut out preservatives and processed foods and working out more. I may see things a little differently once I have children and will try to keep them away from certain things but sometimes, you just need a hot dog and tater tots dinner once in a while.
I'm all for eating healthy and less processed junk. I started to become aware about 2003 and it really changed my life. I feel empowered that I know what is going into my mouth and my families.
Just because a processed food is labeled, organic, natural etc doesn't mean it is healthy. It's still junk food that is loaded with salt and sugar. Reading labels is very important. But I do feel better that when I want to eat a junk food I have choices with less ingredients and ingredients that I can read and know what they are. When I buy food in the store, if I can't read it I won't buy it.
I try to keep us on fruits and veggies and lean meats. Whole foods that are naturally grown without the use of chemicals and hormones or organic. Can't always find foods that fit into this nice little package but usually can. I'm also with Ang and I've changed our shampoo, lotions etc to contain less ingredients that people are still not sure if it can harm us or not...if there is a question then why risk it?
