o--o Sad gym story about moi

I woke up early for the gym this morning. My contact was bugging me all morning and I closed my eye and rubbed it when I was on the treadmill and... threw my depth perception off... and fell off. Yes. I fell off the treamill while running.
THAT is not a good way to start the day! (thus, I am wearing glasses now. I think i need to make an eye dr appt).

I fell on my right knee pretty damn hard... couldnt really put weight on it at first (ice and tylenol helped and I can walk without pain now, just occassional twinges). Im so flarking clumsy! I cant beleive I FELL OFF THE TREADMILL! Luckily it was mostly my ego that was bruised (and the gym was mostly empty).

I was so stunned. Just thrown and sat on the floor for a minute like "what the HELL just happened"

I will be SORE I think... and ill probably get a lovely bruise too. Oy.

Moral of the story - back from our chat last week about contacts and running... DONT wear just one! Or one that is bothering you! DANGEROUS! Im lucky I wasnt hurt worse.

  • At least you learned something Wink

In all seriousness though, I hope you're ok.?

  • Oh no!  I once fell off a treadmill and sprained my wrist badly enough I had to wear a splint for a couple of weeks.  Couldn't type or anything.  We all have our clumsy moments.

I hope your knee feels better soon.

  • Oh no! Glad to hear that you're okay.

I hate running, but I wouldn't do well on the treadmill anyway as I too am very clumsy.

  • Oh no! That's awful!!! I'm glad it wasn't a more serious injury.

And for the record, since we're going down the one-contact-lens road, I didn't listen to you guys yesterday. Went for my session with my trainer and wore one lens.

I did okay with the strength training...but once she asked me to do cardio, I got dizzy and had to stop. So, yeah, I shoulda listened to you all.

  • Oh no! I'm so glad you're okay!

  • Oh no! I don't have any embarassing treadmill stories to share, but I've fallen HARD on pavement while running outside. My favorite <note sarcasm> incident was when I was running around the Tidal Basin in DC before work one morning, and I fell and scraped up in my entire leg... and then I still had to turn around and walk/run 2 miles back to my office so I could clean up. There's nothing like running along the sidewalks of downtown DC with blood running down your leg. I still have a huge scar on my knee from that. Good times, good times.

  • Awwww...  Sad

I hope you're okay, PGH.  Knee injuries always seem to take forever to feel better for me, so I hope yours heals quickly!

As for the one contact thing, yeah.  BAD idea.  I've done the gym before, and had to stop because I got all dizzy.

And then more recently, like an idiot, I forgot to take my glasses with me to the bar exam.  One of my contacts was scratching my eye, so I had to take it out - in the middle of the exam.  So I took the first day of the NY bar exam one contact in, one contact out.  AWESOME.  Sad

  • yeah a scratchy contact is SO flarking uncomfy! I went home instead of going straight to work to change into my glasses after.

I have plenty of falling on pavement (and in the woods) stories too. Once in Pgh I fell in front of a city bus and thank goodness I was with a friend who pulled me over!!! I have definitely run through the city bleeding for the same reason. Awful! And I have plenty of scars frmo falling. When I was a senion in HS the girls made a scrapbook for all the captains and mine had all sorts of me-falling-down references. Sadly I have lost that scrapbook :(

  • That's terrible!  I hope you're doing better!

  • The number of falls I have experienced on pavement, exercise equipment, etc is the reason I only run in water now.
