The funniest thing yet on Hannity

I listen to Hannity on the radio on my drive home.  Yesterday a woman called who was extremely upset with Obama.  Basically she felt that he would not be a good leader because he doesn't even know himself.  The dialogue goes something like this:

Caller:  How can you vote for someone who doesn't even know himself.  You know he is in fact NOT African-American that he is white AND black.  There is a name for people like that in the dictionary and it is not African-African it is mulatto.

Ummm, do people still use the term mulatto?  And lol that she looked it up in the dictionary.

Re: The funniest thing yet on Hannity

  • I think Nirvana provided the last known use of the term.
  • Ha! Is she also not voting for McCain because he doesn't describe himself as Panamanian-american?

  • The term Mulatto gets on my nerves, because I only see the word used in movies with slaves. When I go to Brazil they call me Mulatto, even though they don't mean it that way, it still irritates me.

  • Really Katie?  In what song? Now I will have smells like teen spirit running through my head all day!!!
  • Whenever I hear that word I get Smells Like Teen Spirit stuck in my head, "I feel stupid and contagious/?Here we are now/?Entertain us/?A mulatto/?An albino/?A mosquito/?My libido/?Yea"

I thought that was an extremely non-PC term, too. And rather anachronistic.

But you could knock me down with a feather that someone who called into a radio show made a nonsensical statement.  Stick out tongue  I think that's par for the course on most shows, isn't it?

Ditto this. Does she even know any mixed people? She should ask around if they like being called mulatto.

  • i'm all sorts of confused this morning. i accidentally posted this on the black muslim thread above. i swear, i can't keep these ignorant comments straight. sorry.

while mulatto/a is somewhat acceptable in latin cultures, this morAN on hannity shoulda damn well known better. it's an outdated, silly word that really has no meaning in modern american society.

but more importanly, why can't people accept that obama has the right to claim his identity? i'm so over this topic, really...
