Is anyone here in mirena? I am interested in switching to it. How much did you pay out of pocket for insertion and was it painful? Thanks!
Re: Mirena
Yeah, I figured it would depend on insurance but then I kinda thought insurance may not cover it. I guess that just all depends.
She hates it!? Well that may answer my question then! I thought over time it may just be cheaper than spending $50/month for the ring.
Insurance doesn't want to pay for a baby so I'm sure if you are getting help from your insurance company, they will help pay for it. I would look it up or call your insurance company and find out what percentage they will pay.
I am cheap and before my DH became military, I applied for family planning from Medicaid. Everyone is basically accepted. You get free birth control but your insurance is charged first and then they pay your copay.
My sister hates it but I've seen some people on here love it or at least don't complain about it. Have you had kids yet? Because some doctors will not give you a IUD if you have not had a baby yet. It's harder to implant if you haven't.
My best friend had hers put in when her baby was 6 wks old because they didn't want anymore kids. She absolutely LOVED it because she didn't have periods anymore and didn't have to worry about getting pregnant. She told me that the only downfall is the insertion, which is different for everyone, but for her it was very very painful and it hurt like having a baby she said. She recently got it out (3 years later) because they want another kid and she says that she didn't even feel it getting pulled out.
If my insurance covered any sort of bc I would be on mirena in a heartbeat....I would go all doped up on ibuprofen and dramamine, though, so that it doesn't hurt as bad.
You just scared me out of it! I'm such a freakin' baby when it comes to medical stuff.
No, I haven't had a kid yet. I'll look into the medicaid thing!
I've had it for 2 years. I LOVE it. I had to pay $100 out of pocket. .
However, when I got it put in it was the most pain i've ever been through in my life! Not being a drama queen or anything. Just i've never had kids and they had to dilate me to get it in. But it only lasted for about 2 min. I did cramp all day, but after that. It was all good.
However 2 mins of pain for not having to worry about BC for 5 years! Totally worth it.
I have one, and I am getting it removed soon because they an nasty side effects. Sure getting my period was great for awhile, except I still cramp terribly, at time the IUD moves slightly during sex and it feels like someone jabbed a knife in my uterus...
Also note that while they are supposed to stop ovulation, they might not. You can then have what are called 'chemical pregnancies' which is a nice term for a very early miscarriage(under 8 weeks), they're "quite common" according to my doctor.
Cheaper then BC? Yes, I paid out of pocket 99 dollars for mine and insurance covered my visit. But you need to do a lot of research on it before getting it done... I didn't and now I hate the stupid thing and want it out as quickly as possible. I got mine 4 years ago it's been nothing but problems since
I've had mine a little over a yr. I haven't had any babies and it hurt like abitch to have it inserted. I was off work the next two days because of cramping. Things are good now. Very little to no period. My insurance covered the whole thing.
