What did you wear while you were in Paris? I've seen that we should try to avoid tennis shoes to not stand out. I'm curious what you wore? How did you dress the hubby??
Re: Gerrie
I've never heard about the tennis shoe thing! LOL I totally wore Sketchers and I am willing to bet Paul wore tennis shoes at least a few days. Most days I wore jeans, a sweater and some comfy walking shoes (it was April). We walked EVERYWHERE. One night I had to soak my feet in the tub for an hour so I highly recommend comfort. It's such a great walking city so be comfy!
Take all of that snobby Parisienne stuff with a grain of salt. It's such a tourist city that you run into people of all kinds from so many different countries. I never for a moment felt out of place or like a stupid American. We were welcomed everywhere we went. I wouldn't spend a minute stressing over clothes. Check the weather and dress how you would to go to any American city.
As for hubby... he's the fashionisto in the family so he actually has to help me. He wore jeans and sneaks or khakis and loafers and either a sweater or a button down.
Paris is very much like NYC. You will see trendy folks, goth, preppy, etc. and no one seems to care what anyone else is doing.
PS. learn your basic French sayings. If you don't try to speak French that pi$$es them off. :-) Bonjour and Merci goes a loooong way.
