Molly Maid quote...surprised
$175 flat rate for the first cleaning and then $125 for every 4 weeks. Is that about right? I feel like the flat rate for the first cleaning is high since my house is actually pretty clean and organized!

That sounds about right. Flipping through a flyer from our area, I saw that cleaning servics were charging $60/hr, with the first visit being a 3 hr minimum.
I pay $70 per cleaning for our cleaning lady... I don't care if she takes 10 yrs... she's only getting $70! I do think that quote is a bit high.

I am worried about hiring someone from Craigslist to clean my house but have advertised for a Nanny, how dumb am I ?
I think my fear is just having someone case the joint for a boyfriend or whatever. Not that it couldn't happen with one of the maid services. I know, so irrational but I am such a paranoid person sometimes!
If I did inquire from craigslist, what is a reasonable price to pay? Pay by hour or just for the job itself?

That does sound high. My mom in law only pays 65.00 for her cleaning. Me? I clean our own apt. the 65.00 we use to eat out on or do something fun. Will look into cleaning when we decide to have kids. Do ask around for referrals so ppl even do it on the side as extra income.

I've been looking for a cleaning service, and have recieved 5 estimates, and thats about the same as the highest one I got--from maid brigade, a big chain like molly maid. I've intereviewd 4 individuals, and their prices ranged from about 60 a visit to 125 a visit. The one I'm going with charges 80 per visit and I'm going to have her come monthly. Its a little nerve wracking trusting someone to be in your home, but I would trust an individual I've met personally far more than some "cleaning team" one of the large chains would send...
If it's like the cleaning service I worked for in college, the first clean before you become a regular client is a deeper clean then the regular visits after that.
For a team of 4 people, our company charged $85/hour.
Merry Maids was that much when we had them come do our house (twice). I was so unimpressed both times. They didn't "have time" to clean our floors, and they did a shoddy job dusting.
I found a woman on Angie's List who comes for $40 an hour (three women come) and she said it's unacceptable they didn't do the floors, and she detailed what she does do - which is just what I want. I'm so excited, since I did not want to resort to Merry Maids again. (I don't know why I never called Molly Maids.)

I received a flyer for THE CLEANING AUTHORITY and I called for an over the phone estimate this morning.
She asked how big the house was..she told me for a house that is 2100 sq. ft. (which is about how big my house is) 3 bdroom/2 full bath/2 living areas/kitchen would be $74-$94 every week.
They are coming out tomorrow for an in-home estimate and will hopefully cleaning my house by the end of this week!
I think that what Molly Maid is quoting you is a little high..but i guess it depends on how big your house is and whatnot.

We are told that it's about $15-$20/hr. So the amount would depend on your frequency and how much you want them to cleaned. When we got quotes for ours, we were quoted $60 and $75 each visit (we wanted a bi-weekly visits). Our house is about 4000 sq ft, but I told them that I only want the main areas cleaned.
We wanted to try someone since we thought that we're going to try to have children, but now it looks like we may be going to Russia for an expat assignment, so we decided to just clean ourselves.
