I am disgusted!
The fallout from the commander being a murderer is starting to get disgusting. Yesterday a bunch of soldiers from Trenton and a few from Petawawa were spat on while in uniform. WTF?
If the guy had worked at CIBC would we be spitting on the tellers there? Seriously, people are disgusting.
I have so much respect for those who are willing to risk their lives for freedom. My friend is in Afghanistan right now. If I ever see anyone spitting on a soldier, I would probably beat the crap out of them. Its not their fault that they were under the command of a murderer.
Somedays I am ashamed to be Canadian.

I think right now alot of people are shocked and scared - but yeah that's out of line!
It is really scarry that someone who could have that prestigious of a job could do the things he is accused of. That said, I think what he did is seperate from the forces and his actions should not impact how people view them.
I support the troops and will continue to do so.
Don't judge the whole country by the actions of a small few!
It is horrible that anyone would spit on anyone, no matter who they are. And taking out frustrations and hatred on people just because they are part of the Armed Forces is wrong as well.
I am sure the men and women that served under this commander feel just as disgusted and betrayed as the next person. I think some PR to explain the situation needs to happen ASAP between the Armed Forces and the public.
I am shocked and saddened to hear that people are spitting on those in uniform. Is this in the Belleville/Trenton area where the murders took place?
It's such a bizarre situation. My mother's coworker is actually friends with the accused and his wife and is in complete and utter shock. I'm told everyone who knew him is in utter disbelief at the stark contrast between the person they thought they knew and what he's accused of. Scary stuff.
Exactly - I'm not ever going to be ashamed to be Canadian, I'd be WAY more concerned if I was American. DH's mom is American, so I have a lot of IL's who are American and even in the military and that country is a whole other story.
I don't condone what these people are doing. But the truth is that those who choose to serve are held to a higher standard than most of the rest of us...as well they should be IMO. My grandfather served in the Army (DH's uncles are also active) and his shame would be reserved for the SOLDIER that disgraced his uniform and country! These individuals are the very people that we rely on and look to for peacekeeping and protection, we should be outraged that one may have committed such a crime!
My empathy is reserved for the families of those he may have harmed, thakyouverymuch.

It's true, people suck. But do you really think it would be different elsewhere?
I suppose I was a bit dramatic with being ashamed to be a Canadian. But it is still disgusting that people are taking it out on other members of the forces.
The military really does need to stop giving him positive press at this point. They need to wash their hands of him. Telling people he's a good soldier is no comfort knowing he's a serial killer. They need to stress that it has nothing to do with the military at all, soldier or not.
And, now he's in jail on suicide watch because he is showing psychotic behaviour...how does one go from being "sane" on Sunday and Monday to "insane" the next day? He's totally playing it up. But then again, whats he got to lose at this point.
Given what he's accused of and the suspicions that there's many more unsolved cases that he's responsible for, I'm not sure he was ever sane. Perhaps he just played the role well.
I grew up in Trenton & both my parents work at CFB Trenton. It?s a military town in which basically half the town works at the base. I haven?t heard anything but support for military there. One of the victims was in the military herself and a lot of people on the base and in the community, epically females are pretty shook up.
The idea that town is turning on the military is just sensationalize crap by the media that couldn?t be further from the truth.
