Tell me about Mckinney

Good areas? Bad areas? Best schools, neighborhoods? Shopping?

Thanks!

Re: Tell me about Mckinney

  • We live in Mckinney and love it. We live over on the East side right by Frisco. When we looked at houses, the majority of the newer neighborhoods are on the East side of 75/Central expressway and south of 380/University. There is a lot of shopping in Mckinney, but there are quite a few shopping centers that are in cities right next to Mckinney (Frisco and Allen). We are in Frisco ISD, but Mckinney ISD generally has good schools, that is one of the reasons we moved up here.

  • Swimrbride has the directions backwards. It's the west side of Mckinney, west of highway 75, that's near Frisco and has the majority of newer neighborhoods. I've seen a few pockets of nice neighborhoods on the east side, but I personally wouldn't buy on that side. That being said, the older style, quaint downtown Mckinney area on the east side does have some charm.

It might help your house value in the long run to not be sectioned into "Mckinney High" which is on the east side. There's 3 high schools and I don't know much about Mckinney North, but Mckinney Boyd is very pretty.

If you're a suburb kind of person, as opposed to a city loving folk, it's a great place to be. And you can't beat the cost of living here :)

  • We are building in the McKinney City Limit/ Frisco ISD area that PP is talking about... We really love the area...  DH works for FISD, and we wanted to be in Frisco schools because they are GREAT.  (Not that McKinney's schools aren't, we just really love Frisco ISD.) We have several friends who live up in the area and have for years and absolutely love it!
