Jen Sharpe

How'd today go? I hope everything went well and you got to see your dad.

Re: Jen Sharpe

  • YES, i did!  it was awesome!  he looked great, which really put my mind at ease.  of course it was a big cluster f__k in that I got down there and they didn't have my attorney request form on file, so they said i couldn't see him.  i showed them my fax and the receipt page, and they said OK, but i'd have to wait awhile.  then there was a shift change and it was taking forever.  I only had 2 hours and 15 minutes between meetings to leave the office and get back, so i was getting so frustrated as i watched the clock tick away, and i might have just lost it if i didn't get to see him for a THIRD time going down there.

then he came out the door and i was so happy!  we only got 20 minutes together, but i was able to give him my marriage certificate so that i can see him as a normal family member too.  i also gave him some supplies that he needed that his attorney could give him, so i know that helped him out too.

it was nice, being a lawyer, he and I got to go to a private room instead of out in the main area.  he told me that for visiting people he had to put his jump suit on, but usually he was hanging out in sweats and sneakers, so that was nice to hear.  he was all cleaned up and shaved so he looked just the same to me, less the jumpsuit, of course.

it was also visiting hours for a different floor so while i was waiting for him to come down, i was hanging with some other inmates.  they looked a lot less mean/scary than i pictured in my mind, which was also reassuring. my dad said that everyone gets along pretty well in there.

my dad also told me that "word in the hood" was that everything is so packed down here that usually about 6 months left of the sentence, he will get sent home to live in a halfway house, where he works during the week and can come home on the weekends.  that would be so awesome, though i'm not getting too excited about that yet - we've been so disappointed in all of this already.

i'm going back on saturday with my mom and brother.  thanks for thinking of me!  :)

  • Yay! So glad that you got to see him and that you feel a little better about how he's being treated. Hang in there Jen!!

  • Oh good! I'm so glad you finally got to see him! I'm sorry it was only for 20 minutes, but at least you'll get to go back this weekend for a family visit!!! I'm glad he looked good too, that's always a good thing!

I know what you mean about the other inmates looking less mean/scary then you pictured - George is a pretty high level in the virginia system so he's in there with some lifers and some murders and the like and they look a lot less scary than I thought they would.

Hopefully he'll get that halfway house deal because that would be awesome. I think that a halfway house makes it easier to integrate back into society.

    Have fun on Saturday :)
