NER: Is this appropriate at a salon?
I got my haircut today (a bob!!!) and I went to a place that I have only gone to three times. Everytime I go, they shuffle me into a private room to put on a kimono robe type get up. I always put it on over my clothes. My stylist noticed this today and said "oh you didn't take your shirt off?"
Huh?
Since when does getting your hair cut mean taking off your shirt?
I'll admit that I am a bit of a dunce when it comes to salons and spas and whatnot, but is this something I should be doing?
In other words should I be taking off my shirt to get a hair cut? If so WHY??!!!
Re: NER: Is this appropriate at a salon?
I usually do take my shirt off.
I think it's because the kimono thingy is meant to be a shirt subsititute, so that you dont' have little hairs on your shirt... and, if you're getting color, your shirt can't get stained.
I am the 99%.
I always take my shirt off before I put on the kimono, so that it doesn't get wet when they wash my hair. It's personal preference, but I know stylists like when you do it so they don't have to worry about messing up your clothes with water or products.
Huh. I've never taken my shirt off at a salon, and I it's not like I go to Supercuts.
Well I don't color. And, I have the kimono, the a towel around my neck AND the regular smock around me, so I don't feel that getting wet or getting hairs on me is an issue.
I feel like Chandler on Friends when he got groped by the tailor and Joey claimed that was normal. Taking off a shirt to get a hair cut does not seem normal to me!
I always take off my shirt. I think they encourage it because if something stains your shirt, they don't want to get in trouble for it or have to comp you a haircut for ruining your shirt.
Even if you aren't getting a dye, oils from the conditioner or hair gel or whatever could get on a shirt and if it's silk or something, it could get ruined.
But I have the kimono, the cape and a towel on! And I have never, ever, in all my years, had anything on me or got a stain from a haircut.
You don't even know how bizzare this is to me. I swear I thought everyone was going to say "what a cookoo salon!!!"
Lol.
BTW, love having short hair!!!
I want to see a pic of the new do!
I always take my shirt off too, just because somehow it tends to get wet anyway. Plus I color so I don't want to get anything stained. ?
I am now convinced that you all are weird exhibitionists and me and Brookles are normal.
Seriously, no hairs. No water. No oils. Ever.
Weirdos.
ok call me lowbrow, but i have never heard of taking your shirt off to get a hair cut.
*gets defensive* i grew up in the country ok?! i bet you guys didn't know that there is such a thing as barbed wire or electric fences to keep cows in!

Agree LMW!!!! I have NEVER taken my shirt off even when I have gotten my hair colored a ton of times. I would not feel comfortable with that - sorry!
I take it off so I don't get hair on my shirt.
If you don't want to take your shirt off, I don't see the point of the kamono. I would just have them throw a towel around you. I thought that was the whole point of putting the kamono on ::shrug::
?
Ditto.?
lol, this thread is hilarious. i''ve never taken my shirt off. and i grew up in the big city. so there.
LMW, post some pix of the new cut!
We need to see the cut!!
I've also never taken off my shirt. ?I go to the Red Door now, and I think they kind of want you to (they give you the kimono) but I will not.?
I'm with you on this one! Next time I go get my haircut I am going to ask my stylist if anyone ever strips for her!
