Cheshire slayings subject of newly published book
By Luther Turmelle, North Bureau Chief
This week?s release of the first book published about the 2007 home invasion and killing of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two daughters in Cheshire is likely to bring back some bad memories for people in the community who have grown weary of being reminded of that day.
?I think the town of Cheshire is ready to move on,? said Lt. Jay Markella, a spokesman for Cheshire police. ?People want to be left alone.?
The author of ?Murder in Connecticut,? Michael Benson, heard some of that sentiment as he was conducting interviews for the book.
Benson, who lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., wrote the book in about six months, finishing late this spring, well before the first anniversary of the July 23, 2007, killings.
****This is my hometown and I really think someone trying to profit off of such a horrendous tragedy is deplorable. Especially since it was only a year ago. Is this normal or highly inappropriate?
Re: NER: local news story; do you think this is appropriate?
Was that the doctor's family?
I think it's an awful exploitation of the tragedy...BUT I do think it is a very moving event that people will certainly be interested in.
How's the father/husband holding up?
I don't really know how he's doing. There was a benefit walk in July for the girls' charities and he participated. His home has been torn down and now it is more of a wildlife/plantlife sanctuary that the neighbors care for. That all happened just a few miles from my parents house so I am in the area all.the.time. I refuse to buy or read this book.
