Decided to give this thing a shot!
So, we have discussed and are looking to TTC. I was very excited with our decision and happy with our dicussions around this.
I'm a bit bummed though, I need to get a spinal MRI done before TTC and I've been trying to get this booked through my speicalist's office. I feel like a bit of a stalker - I left her a voicemail yesterday and today and called a handful of times just in case she'd answer. I just tried calling again and she won't be in until Tuesday now. I know I'll likely have to wait to get my MRI, but I hate waiting just to book the appointment.
Oh well, still excited. I posted on the bump, but not getting much response there, so I'll ask here as well. I've been on the BCP for over 13 years, I don't really remember life before BCP. So, I was wondering what to expect physically, emotionally, etc when I do stop taking it?
Thanks Ladies!
Re: Update: To be or not to be a mom
Wow that is great that you decided to start trying. We are not trying yet, but will be soon.
As for the BCP questions, it can vary person to person so I can really only give you my experience so far. I went off the pill in November after being on it for 10 years, and I was really hopeful that things would go back to normal quickly. I started charting using the FAM method (I recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility because it will really help you understand your body better), and things seemed to be going ok. Unfortunately I have yet to have a monthly period, and now I totally don't understand what my charts are trying to tell me. I have read that this is common when you have been on bcp for awhile, so I guess you could expect that it may happen.
Other than that, I have not seen a huge difference physically or emotionally. Except maybe that my libido is better, which is also common when going off the pill.

Thanks for the info... good news about the libido, but that's never been a problem.
I will not be charting or anything like that, just letting things take their course...
I went off the pill after being on for 7 years, also in November (just trying to give my body a break).
I started to getting my monthly period whereas when I was on the pill I never got my period or I got very very midly ... a like a couple hours midly. While my period came back with a vengence. My PMS is alot more severe now too.
Plus side its alot easier to climax during sex now
Congrats on the big decision, very exciting!
no one will know better then your doctor;
but "taking charge of your fertility" is a great book to read.
it is said that you should come off bcp atleast 3-6 months before trying, to regulate your system and "detox" it. Speak to you GP and ask them; they could best advise you!

I second this. The main topic of the book is charting, but it is very informative regardless.
Congratulations on making the decision. Like others have mentioned everyone's experience when coming off the BCP is different. There is no real reason to wait for a specific amount of time before TTC, it just makes it easier to date the pregnancy if you wait for a new cycle to begin.
The most important thing is to begin taking prenatal vitamins immediately. It is best to start taking these at least 3 months before TTC in order for the folic acid to build up in your system.
Good luck!

Wow! Congrats on making a decision. It's a life-changer
It really varries from person to person. My best friend got pregnant in the first month after being on the pill for 10 years. I was on it for a year and it took 6 months with really crazy periods.
Congrats on the decision!
This... We are just starting to TTC. It's so far been a bit of an rollercoaster for me. I am excited and want to be a Mom yet the whole process seems a bit scary. However, DH and I are reading a book called "Conception, Pregnancy & Birth" by Miriam Stoddard. It's a Canadian edition. (I signed it out from the library) I recommend it as it, in a wierd way is helping my fears. Wierd way as some of the stuff they talk about is a little scary.
On the BCP thing, can't help as I was only on them for about 9 months or a year.... However, my period has varied a bit from my pre-BCP period.
Good Luck!
(didn't get a chance to read responses sorry if this is a repeat answer)
As for the BCP, I was on it 10+years and had my first (non bcp) period as if I never went off it and based on that was able to get pg the following month. It really does depend on your body. Also on the plus side the libido went way up.?
Thanks Mrs. Sarah - I liked your answer and hope that all goes as well for me too!
