Ohhhhh.... super.

And by super, I mean *&%^#$(*&P.

Went home over lunch to walk Pugsly.  After the walk, I sit down at the kitchen table to eat some lunch and I start hearing .....drip....drip.....drip....drip... . I went to investigate, and it turns out we have a pretty good leak above our water heater.

I call husband, to ruin his day, I call work to tell them I'm on bucket-duty and will be taking a 1/2 vacation day...

As I was trying to take the utility closet door off so i could better position buckets I realized I could hear voices in the condo above me.  So on a whim, I go up there to inquire whether they were having leaks, too.

So there's good news and bad news....

The good news is that a) the leak is temporary and b) has, by now, essentially stopped.

The bad news is that the reason it was leaking is because the toilet overflowed upstairs.  So that water that was leaking into our condo?   ....yyyyyeah.... diluted human waste.  Fantastic.

And now I'm out a half day of work. Confused

Who wants margaritas?

Re: Ohhhhh.... super.

  • ohhh yuck.   Margaritas and a really really really hot shower with lots of soap for you I think!  Cheers to a better evening!
  • Ewwww. I would be Lysol-ing the heck out of everything.  What a great way to end the week... here, have one of these Drinks

We need to talk to someone on TN and have them come up with a margarita icon.

  • Eww, ewww, eww!! What a crappy (pardon the pun) way to start your weekend!

You deserve margaritas and more...will their home owners insurance cover any cleaning/repair work?

  • I think you deserve to stay in a nice hotel this weekend.  That's just nasty.
    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • We actually had a similar thing in our old apartment... we never saw the actual leak (I think it was a couple of stories above us), but a toilet leak above us caused mold in our bathroom and bedroom closets.  Talk about gross.  Be sure to watch for mold after the leak is fixed.

...will their home owners insurance cover any cleaning/repair work?

Well that's the thing... there's no real damage outside of the evident crack in our ceiling, which a little clay will fix.  This is not a costly repair.  I'm more concerned about any residual waste stuck in the crack between our place and the place upstairs.  The thought of it being stuck like that is really gross.

So I don't know if we're even going to get insurance involved... we'll see.

  • Oh Karen, I'm so sorry. That sounds awful! Have you talked to the people upstairs? Who lets their toilet overflow so much that it seeps through the floor?
  • That's so annoying!  I'm sorry.  when we lived in out apartment the jerk upstairs overflowed his washer and water started coming down our kitchen walls and under our fridge....the evening before Thanksgiving....  Those people need to come down and clean up their mess!
  • PS:  Margaritas sound awesome right about now....Drinks but a margarita pic instead...close enough....
  • Oh Stink. Literally. I'm sorry!!
