McCain suspending campaign...
He says "we need to set politics aside" but if he really wanted to do so, he would have made a joint appearance with Obama, not a solo one. It smacks of a cheap gimmick to me.

Re: McCain suspending campaign...
Obama got sucker-punched, imo.
Particularly since he was the one that called McCain this morning to discuss a joint statement...
I'm guessing Mac's campaign officials said, "Sure. We'll do the joint statement thing...but fiiiiirst let's try THIS."
Strategery at its finest
FINALLY! a ballsy move on the economy! I've been dying for him to do something drastic ever since this crisis started.
I think it's a great move.
on a side note, I read on Drudge that McCain "laid out a proposal last Friday." Does anyone have that? I would love to read it.
ETA: ditto umwife. This is politicking at its finest. I'm actually kind of impressed b/c I didn't think he had it in him.
Do you have a source for this? That makes me exceedingly angry.
ETA: found it on MSNBC:

The Obama campaign said Obama had called McCain around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to propose that they issue a joint statement in support of a package to help fix the economy as soon as possible. McCain called back six hours later and agreed to the idea of the statement, the Obama campaign said. McCain's statement about postponing his campaign was issued to the media a few minutes later.
The election is weeks away, there is no way we can put politics aside. It's impossible. And he is turning his "let's not be political right now" into a political event!!!
I cry booooo.
And I want my debate. It is, besides gossip girl, the highlight of my week.
Obama says debate still on!!!
Woooooohooooo!
From CNN.com:
The Obama campaign said Obama called McCain at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to ask if the Republican nominee would join him in a joint statement of "shared principles and conditions" for the proposal. It said McCain called back at 2:30 p.m. -- shortly before his New York announcement -- to agree, and "The two campaigns are currently working together on the details."
There better be a debate.
