Valentine's Day (the movie)

I won't post any spoilers because I figure some of you will see it this weekend, too. But, I thought it was good. It was funny, and I even got teary in a few parts. There were some shockers and some things I didn't see coming right away, which is good. I give it an A overall.

Re: Valentine's Day (the movie)

  • Oooh I want to see this one, but I just don't think W will go with me. Maybe I'll be that creepy lone person in the theater next weekend.

  • J actually wanted to see it with me, but he had to work tonight and my girlfriends wanted to go. We were going to see Dear John, but it was sold out. I think it worked out for the better even though we had to sit in the front row because we were late.

  • Thanks, I just assumed it would suck since it had so many big name celebrities in it. I guess this is what me and the hubs will see tonight.

  • I hope you like it. I was hesitant to post anything about it because I know it isn't and won't be everyone's cup of tea. But, hey I enjoyed it!

  • I've convinced my hubby to actually see it with me on Sunday. I'm excited :)

  • Wow, an A is high praise! This isn't usually my type of movie at all (I've never seen The Notebook or He's Just Not That Into You or anything like that, you could not pay me to see Dear John) but there is a part of me that likes the idea of eating popcorn while watching beautiful people wear fashionable clothes for an hour and forty-five minutes or whatever it is.

An A, though. Now I actually want to go!

  • Good to know! Thanks Kaley! I want to see it too.

And Lark, The Notebook is an entirely different class than He's Just Not that Into You. The Notebook is an amazingly well-written, well-told, well-acted, poignant movie. He's just not that into you--well, it blew. I am not into romantic cornball movies usually either. But The Notebook is fan-freak-tastic! Even my H who is as manly and has as short of an attention span as it comes, really likes The Notebook. (if you can believe that!) At the end of watching it, I'm bawling in tears and he's like, 'damn, that is a good movie, huh?'

  • DH and I are going to see Valentine's Day this afternoon. Good to hear its good.

Lark - see the Notebook... it is so worth it. Have you read the book? It is a fantastic story. Like Angel's, my DH loved it too.

  • And this movie is completely different than The Notebook and He's Just Not That Into You(from what I've heard). I started to give it a B, but I actually really liked it and will probably buy it on DVD when it comes out. That says a lot about a movie to me. If I actually want to see it again and again, that says a lot. So maybe an A was a bit high, but that is just my opinion. I am sure a lot of other people won't like it.

  • I'm afraid it will be like He's just not that into you. Big names and I couldn't get past the first 20 minutes. I'll have to work on M to get him to go.,

  • I third or 4th The Notebook. My DH also loved it and he hates chick flicks. I think he liked it better than I did.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

I didn't see that, so I can't compare. Now I feel like I am building everyone up for it and you all are going to hate it.

  • I'm in lark's boat - i can't imagine giving this an A but I like the idea of sitting around watching fashionable pretty people :)
  • Ok, ok an A was probably high praise. But, it isn't an A like best movie ever. It was an A like it was enjoyable and something I will buy and watch again because it was cute and funny and light hearted.

  • Kaley -- just wanted to let you know Dh and I saw this movie yesterday and we really liked it. Yeah it was predictable and cliche but it was cute and funny.
  • We saw it too last night, and it was cute and funny (but only deserving of the 2 stars it got in my opinion), but I was really disappointed in the stereotyping of people from other cultures towards the beginning of the movie. There were 3 or 4 scenes that were essentially making fun of immigrants. Not cool. Otherwise, a light fluff piece that was entertaining.

I will agree with you on this UNLESS you're talking about any of the scenes with George Lopez. And that's only because my good friend is writing her Master's Thesis on him and his comedy, and he does make these types of inappropriate jokes deliberately and for an intended result.

But I will agree the scene in the flower market and flower shop (about the accents) was pushing it.
