Bill Clinton was a guest of the David Letterman show last night where he gave a tepid endorsement of Barack Obama. The next guest was Chris Rock who is genetically incapable of being tepid. He gave a near-belligerent excoriation of Clinton?s performance:
?Is it me, or he [Clinton] didn?t want to say the name Barack Obama? He did not ? He went through everything he could do ? ?Well like Hillary would want to do with the economy?? Hillary ain?t running. Hillary?s not running. What the hell??
If everybody hates Chris, he apparently doesn?t care. He makes an interesting point. Why is the Clintons? support of Obama so tepid and muted? Some openly speculate that they want Obama to lose so that Hillary will have a better shot in 2012. I have no idea if that is true, but the more they withhold their enthusiasm for Obama, the more they give their supporters license to do the same.
Source: The New York Times/CBS News pollAs the chart above shows, more than twice the amount of Clinton?s primary supporters, as compared to Obama?s primary supporters, now expect McCain to win the general election. Also, three times as many Clinton primary supporters (over Obama primary supporters) say Obama doesn?t understand their needs, but that McCain does.
If they really want Obama to win, now would be the time to say it ? loudly, like Chris Rock.
Re: Chris Rock on Bill Clinton's Tepid endorsement of Obama
Clinton was just on The Daily Show last night talking about it, and I think he did a pretty good job arguing for Obama. He said HRC has done more campaiging for Obama than any other primary opponents in the last 40 years put together or something like that. I don't really care...I'm getting tired of the whole mind reading issue. At some point, they say the support him, Hillary gave a great speech in support of him, that's all i need.
I didn't see him on the View (I can't watch that show, I just can't), but I did see him on Daily Show. I thought he did well.
I saw Bill on the Daily Show as well. He seemed crustier in general -- during the entire interview, not just talking about Obama -- than he did, say, three years ago. But he's seemed that way for awhile now.
Gah! I missed the Daily Show last night with Bill! Was that last night?
I have to say--I just played the Chris Rock clip and I am laughing my butt off. The man is hilarious, whatever he comments on--rap music, relationships, politics. Cracks me up every time!
