Whaddya think?
For me, I loved the intro with all of the aboriginal tribes welcoming everyone and dancing. The parade, well, it was too long, but can't really complain about that. The older historical stuff was cool, but as it went on, it got less entertaining. Their musical guest choices were pretty bad. Well Nelly wasn't bad, but the song was. And KD Lang sorta butchered what I've always thought to be a breathtaking and haunting song. As much as I dislike her, I think Celine Dion might have been a better choice. I felt SO BAD for them when they had the mechanical malfunction at the end! You could see the looks on Wayne Gretzky's face that something was wrong before Bob Costas pointed it out, and his torch kept going out (before the second lighting!). But the cauldron outside was amazing!

Re: Your thoughts on the opening ceremonies?
Agreed.
Nelly/Ryan song was awful (and her shoes were frightening me)
KD Lang was lame.
But Joni Mitchell made me cry--that was a fantastic version of Both Sides Now.
Also, I thought the use of the screens on the floor was excellent (the whales with the blowholes for example--so cool!) and also the white ponchos on the audience so the light could shine on them.
I also liked the poet. I thought he did very well. Some of the dancers, though I did not get. I suppose it's a look but they all just looked unwashed to me.

THere was some cool stuff going on there with the projected images. like the icebergs breaking apart and the whales w/blowholes.
i agree that they could have chosen better performers and songs. i thought those were a little on the lame side.
